Well, every sport has negative effects on the environment. Pretty much every human activity does. But the effects of ANY sport are so little when compared to pollution from industrial causes, that you don't really have to worry about it.
Motorsports are in fact among those with the biggest advantages for the environment as they are the source of most of the developments that make engines more environmentally friendly. And by taking up motorsports you will support the companies which are at the forefront of such developments! The amount of fuel that is being burned at motorsports events is absolutely insignificant when compared to what regular traffic or the industry uses.

all sports have a negative impact on the environment. think of it this way, you have to drive there, you eat the fast food they sell(the packing they put the food in)trash, the stadiums use a ton of electric(in which im sure its not green power) etc... as for sports that actually help the environment i cant think of any. i would have to say bicycling is the cleanist of all sports ( even at that, you have to consider the cars following the tour) good luck on finding an all natural sporting event. good question i have never thought about sporting events like that.

- All motorsports
- Hunting (influences natural ecological balance)
- Skiing/Golfing, or any other sport that requires vast amounts of artificially-groomed lands
- Scuba Diving, if the diver disturbs corals or other highly fragile organisms
I don't think there are any sports that help preserve natural resources. However, sometimes a skiing or golfing resort may be the best ecological option if the alternative were to construct housing on the land.

Automobile racing, off road driving, and other motor sports usually cause the most harm to the environment as gasoline is wasted at an unusual proportion along with the creation of noise pollution and excess greenhouse gases. Hunting deer under the right circumstances can be beneficial to the environment as it assists with animal population control. Most outdoor sports have little or no effect on the environment. Sometimes the loss of sporting items in the wilderness can sometimes be litter on a trivial scale. However its more environmentally conscious to play paintball instead of air soft as paint balls are biodegradable, unlike air-soft bebees. For projectile sports, archery is a better choice over bebee guns as beebees can be hazardous litter.

NASCAR - Yes.
Indy Racing League... not really, that's ethanol they are burning.
The big one is GOLF! Think about it... all those manicured greens in Arizona. How do you get that much grass in a desert? Fertilizer and water - water that hardly ever naturally falls there. It's not just the ones in Arizona and California that are responsible. Every single golf course needs to water the greens DAILY... and then they use gasoline-powered mowers to mow every single day.
I don't know if a weekly NASCAR race could even rival the energy impact of millions of lawnmowers on our nations' golf courses, and the millions of pounds of chemical fertilizer spread, and the billions of gallons of water that needs to be pumped to the golf courses (and pumping water requires energy).

Every sport is a NON-eco friendly sport. People watch t.v. (emits carbon) people drive to see the sport, not to mention the motorsports, and look at all the trees that are cut down to make fields & such...Sports sound pointless to me.

All of them are fine because it's around 100,000 people watching a game instead of inside their individual house using energy. Although the recent cover of SI covers this topic.

Golf, definitely. Water water water, they consume immense amounts of water. Plus the fertilizer that runs off and pollutes the groundwater. And what about the native flora and fauna that was displaced to put in the golf course.
