Esther, You know who will stand in your judgement on the last day don't you?

It will be Queen Esther herself that will denounce your version of Christianity.

John Paul meant that we should not fear anything if we have the true faith. Faith leads to trust in God, and when we have God we lack nothing nor should we fear anything on Earth.

The root of fear is pride.

The root of fear is lack of faith and lack of love.

If we have total confidence in the power of God and His goodness, then we have no reason to fear.

For if you are afraid, then in a practical way, you doubt either God's power or His goodness (which is quite common among Christians) - faith and love require much time and effort to acquire from God (assisted by His grace of course, without which, we can do nothing) - Christian maturity is a difficult and arduous venture.

St. John tells us that perfect love casts out fear, and for those who are still afraid, their love is not yet perfect - he did not say that they have no love, but that it has yet to reach the stage of perfection (see 1 John 4:18)

Some Christians are just idiots.
Be not afraid. That very phrase appears in the Bible over 300 times.

He meant that NOTHING should seperate us from the Love of God and neighbor. Fear is rooted in lack of faith. This is a time to put an end to the culture of death and rise up to defend the Lord and his Church

Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very, very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence.

John Paul II was quite prolific. In order to answer this question, the context would be needed. Otherwise, one can only guess.

John Paul II didn't speak to all Christians. He didn't speak to Christians at all. He spoke to those who are being gathered together to give their allegiance to the one world leader, the false Jesus who those who do not know the Lord of Glory because they are double-minded and unrepentant will accept. Jesus said in John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

I don't mean to be a jerk...
but this question is a good example of how christian thought is flawed.

How can we know what someone meant without the rest of the speech. Christians think that soundbites somehow include extra meaning without the context inwhich it was stated in.

root of Fear = propaganda

JP meant = "live in love"
he was without the knowledge that the human listener's mind ignores any "not"s. so what his followers really heard was "be afraid"

I think the root of fear is trusting in ourselves instead of God- "Perfect love casts out fear". We are not to fear and trust God.

First of all, he was saying do not be afraid of things you can't control, because God is looking out for us. (Cue the VeggieTales "God is Bigger than the Boogie Man".)

Secondly, he was saying do not be afraid to stand up for what you believe and do what is right even when it is hard or different from the crowd.
