MICHAEL WALTRIP RESUME

Professional Experience
Has won 4 races in 676 starts (.00591 Winning Percentage) all
wins are with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated and at restrictor plate
race tracks (Daytona and Talladega) when DEI was dominant at
restrictor plate racing. Mediocrity = average career finish of 21.7.

Special Skills
Convincing Sponsors to Leave Established Car Owners:
1. Took NAPA from Dale Earnhardt - How do you repay a
NASCAR Legend who gave you the opportunity to win 4 races
after loosing 462 consecutive races? Well if your name is Michael
Waltrip you convince the sponsor to leave DEI and be part of an
organization that cheats and does not qualify for races.
Earnhardt fans should remember that Dale had established NAPA
with DEI long before Michael was involved with the organization.

2. Took UPS from Robert Yates Racing. Not only did he convince
UPS to leave a NASCAR Champion Car Owner, he convinced
NASCAR Champion Dale Jarrett to leave as well. Dale Jarrett and
UPS are now sitting home on race day as they are out of the top
35 in car owner points and have already used all six of their past
champion provisionals.

Cheating
Waltrip's car was confiscated after Daytona 500 qualifying as a
result of NASCAR officials spotting an illegal substance on the
intake manifold. Michael says a full investigation is being
conducted. This just in.......OJ says he is still looking for the real
killer too.

Have You Ever Been Charged with a Crime?
Waltrip was charged in April with reckless driving and failing to
report an accident, both misdemeanors. He told police he fell
asleep the wheel and woke up to find his car overturned in the
gravel.

"He was bleeding from his forehead and had some cuts on his
fingers and arms," a witness said. "I told him "You are really lucky
you are alive. I didn't think anybody was alive in there.' We sort of
talked for a minute or two, and I told him 911 was on the way, and
he just turned around and started walking home.

"I didn't know what to say or what to do. He had a T-shirt and
sweat pants and socks on, he might have taken his shoes off in
the car, but I wasn't sure. And he just turned around and started
walking home in his socks."

Waltrip has a June 25 court date in Newton on the charges

I've always liked Mickey as a personality, but not as a driver. You know I never looked at the sponsorship situation like that. Makes me rethink my outlook on Mickey. From the beginning I have thought him starting his own team was a huge mistake. You make your bed you have to lie in it! As far as his accident goes I believe that he was intoxicated and didn't want to get caught. That would put a nail in the coffin that is already being built for him. His daughter was already upset with him for cheating and she didn't understand why he
did. I think Nascar as a whole have started looking at Mickey different because of it also. Getting caught drinking and driving would have really changed some peoples view of him.

I like to think there are two sides to every story. This story sounds damning but can we really be sure what happened the night he says he fell alseep? He might very well have been drinking. I also know someone who was in an accident, walked away with bumps and bruises but the hit was hard enough to knock off their shoes, and no drinking was involved. No one knows but Mikey.
As for his leaving DEI, I think that NAPA chose to leave unless I missed the reports of Michael holding them at gunpoint demanding that they leave DEI. Same for UPS, the sponsors made the decision to leave. Look at the mess with DEI right now. Jr. is leaving and Budweiser is coming with him. There are definate issues at DEI.
We can never fully understand what goes on in a persons head or why they make the decisions they do. We can only speculate.
The title is: Just read this article about Mikey. It is about Mikey but not BY Mikey. Again, we can only wonder.

I'm not a fan of Mike but any time a driver has some success(?) it is a bad deal when he does so poorly.I would like him to make a few races.
Now as for the "cheating" he knows he is under the micro scope when it comes to NASCAR His cars are checked with a fine tooth comb. And as for an owner he knows if he screws up Toyota will pull everything from him.

I guess in the same way that Dale Jr. will never be as good as his dad, we'll have to agree Michael will never be as good as his brother. They both still seem like nice guys, just have to bear the curse of always being compared to a more successful family member. Is this person saying Jr. should hang it up as well, since he's not winning?
