I named my dogs based on personalities and traits even if it was a humans name or something ridiculous. Everything from tv, to books, to food.
I've had at least 50 foster dogs, possibly more, I never actually counted soo the list goes on and on. And to be honest I can't remember half their names
They ranged from normal like Phoebe, Rory, Katie, Piper, Shyanne, Annabelle and Jenna.
To strange ones like, Pixie, Dobby, Taz, Snipe, Resses Cup, Dobby, Frogger, Weaseley, Wotsit, Peaches, and Cookie Monster...

I have three German Shepherds Grizzly, Nesa and Sam. They all got their names for different reasons Grizzly stood up like a little bear. Nesa was the name of a business on the way home. And Sam was named after my first dog Samantha and a rottie my uncle had Samson.

I name mine to what their personality is. I have a Keeshond named Keesha although I didn't name her she was a rescue dog, Pit mix named Amber because of her coloring, Great Dane named Isabella which is beauty in Italian and a Chihuahua named Taz for the tasmanian devil-no explanation needed there:>)

I like names that make sense. Well some people dont agree but i think they do. I dont like "foo foo" names. It lessens the dignity of the animal. I like to name my dog the first thing that comes to me when i hold it in my arms. I have a pug named squirt, Because when she was born she was very tiny and i didn't think she would live but she did and the name stuck. Silly huh. But I don't think she minds. Name your dog something that makes you feel goo . Forget about other people.

I don't really have a specific thing that I name my dogs after. My puppy was named Duke because he looked royal and old. And I had another dog that I named Roxy because she used to chew rocks. I just name my dogs after their behavior or how they look... Usually just whatever they remind me of or what pops into my head when I think of a name for them. I also had an old english sheepdog named piper. That wasn't for any reason in general, but it fit.

We have two Chi's. And each was named from something
relating to her. Chica was named such for being a little girl
when we got her, and she is a breed from Mexico originally.
So Chica means, little girl in Spanish.
The second Chi we named, Sissy after she was coming to
Baby, and no one liked that name. So since she's the half
sister to Chica, we decided on Sissy, short for 'Sister'.
Originally tho, her name was Esme. Short for Esmerelda,
by the first owners.
