You go to heaven for accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal savior. When you do that the good acts tend to follow. People who are evil generally aren't worrying about Jesus.

Actually, the belief that you have only to accept Jesus to go to heaven and not to be a good person is historically quite modern.

In the past a person would be considered to be a Heretic to hold such belief. According to normal Christian Lore you go to heaven if you are good and to hell if you are evil.

It is unfortunate that this new notion of "believe in our God or go to Hell" has turned Christianity from a religion into an Elitist Cult.

What was the point of Jesus preaching humility, love, understanding, tolerance and peace if the only thing you needed to go to Heaven was to just to say the Jesus is your personal savior.

You don't go to Hell for being evil. You go to Hell if you don't accept Jesus as your savior. If you do accept Him then you go to Heaven. Your works, good or evil, don't affect whether you go to Heaven or Hell.

Less than 16% of the Christian population believes that you "can't get to heaven for being good." Is that concept really so hard to grasp?

You don't go to hell because you are evil. We go to hell because we don't want to be with God and heaven is where God is and hell is where we don't have to be with Him.

We all get what we really want and hell is locked on the inside.

correction:

you can't go to Heaven for JUST being good
you can't go to Hell for JUST being 'evil'

technically, it's impossible for a human to be pure good or pure evil. they can only meet standards. the standard for Hell is dying in sin (Christ is not your Lord and Savior when you die). the standard for Heaven is righteousness (you die or are raptured with Christ as your Lord and Savior).

so a repented and then saved sinner can get to Heaven. see how easy it is?

Hell is for those who, because of their sins against others, do not wish to be in God's presence. You will not be judged on how good of a Christian, Muslim, Jew or whatever you believe. You will be judged on the sins you have committed against others. We all commit sins, but if we truly ask God for forgiveness he will give it. Your relationship with God, or lack there of, is between you and God. No one can tell you if you are going to hell, but God.

Sadly, many religious people think their way is the only way. Every Holy book is inspired by God, BUT written by men, and we always, always, put our perspective into things. Do I read the Bible, yes. Do I believe every single word in it, no.

2nd Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

That means use the brain that you were given to learn and think for yourself.

To many people follow their religion blindly, without learning for themselves.

You can get to Heaven if you are good. It's just that the good you do must be for God.

We should be good because we love Him - not to impress people or just to keep from going to Hell.

being good doesnt mean you believe in God, not accepted as a conclusion, being evil is another thing, it doesnt require faith.. just do evil, and you're evil..
