I am sure you will get many answers about how it is all l part of some great plan... and well that's bullshit... God just doesn't exsist... and I guess disabilities is part of the proof that he doesn't.

ADDED: Once again I was being rude... I need to control myself honestly... I didn't mean it that bluntly...

There could be a variety of reasons why these poor sods are born with disabilities, such as complications at birth, mutated genes, heredity, medication, etc, and its sad for each person.

There can't be a real "god" who would let people suffer in so many different ways. If there was, he is one sick bastard and I wouldn't want anything to do with "him".

To those who have spouted on about the sins of "adam and eve" causing these disabilties - what a crock of ****. How do you explain to those innocent kids that they have been picked for a lifetime of suffering because of some characters from a fictional, hateful, murderous, evil book.

In some American Indian mythology people with cognitive disabilities were believed to be closer to the gods, and their disabilities were intended to prevent them from sharing truths and insights which were not meant for the rest of us. I don't subscribe to this, but I do like how it an example of how people of all places and times struggle to understand our human relationship with this world, and often ascribe pieces we can't understand to a God myth. For the record I am much fonder of this myth than the one that Veritas (above) expounds.

John,
I have a complete disability yet I know that there is a GOD and HE has given me many talents and gifts that you will probably never have. I hope that you understand GOD did not "give me a disability" HE gave me life. We are all given small challenges. Some of us have larger challenges then others but we are all able to overcome them if we seek HIS Assistance and have faith in HIM.. I hope that this is clear to you. I am finished. Have a nice day.
Thanx,
Eds

Yet another reiteration of the "problem of evil". God gave man free will, without which man could not truly love God. However, man can misuse that free will, including twisting something that might be good, such as religion, into something that is evil. Until the unbeliever can show that a universe with love (even though it entails the possibility of evil) cannot be better than a universe without love (even though it entails no possibility of evil), then the "problem of evil" argument will always falter. It is not God who caused the human suffering and so forth, but man's misuse of free will.

God originally made people completely perfect. When Adam and Eve introduced sin to humanity, sin eroded that perfection. Now we see mental retardation, common colds, heart defects, auto-immune disorders, multiple sclerosis, and the list goes on and on. Ultimately, we die because that is one of the results of sin. Yes, we sin by lying and being prideful, etc., but the "wages of sin is death" and I would add to that and say "the wages of sin is the diminishment of God's perfect creation".

To asakite and any others who think that I am being cruel to those who have disabilities, I am not. I am NOT saying it is their fault. It is because of what two people did several thousand years ago. The people who have disabilities did not sin and then become disabled as their "punishment". It isn't a punishment; it is simply a fact of life.

We all have things in our life we must overcome. I have met some people in my life with disabilities that are much happier then people who do not have one.
God loves everyone and we everyone is different. I am not belittling the challenges a person with a disability goes through, but they are who they are and they are not less then anyone else. Not in God's eyes, or mine.

God didn't promise a rose garden That's one of the penalties we have to pay for the disobedience of Adam and Eve. God has created a world that allows itself to develop without His interference. It's free will on an epic scale. It's not a deliberate action by God. It's all part of His main design.

They will say it is from original sin. But if that is so, why did god curse all the animals too. They get diseases and cancer, just like humans. Did the animals sin? Or could it be god is not so perfect after all.

Or the best answer is there is not god.

Disabilities are the result of an imperfect world due to man's sin.
