hmm, not many real answers until the end of this forum so I guess I'll have to chime in. Is the Hyundai Tucson a good car, yes its a great small SUV for the amount of money it will cost you (under$20K). Hyundai's are top rated in quality and long-term reliability and the Tucson has quickly become one of their best sellers. While American companies have gotten out of the small SUV/truck segment, its been a huge hit for Japanese and now Korean makes (Rav4, CRV, Tucson, Sportage). You may actually want to visit a Kia dealer and compare with the Sportage (basically the same vehicle), then see who can give you the best deal...remember car dealers always mark them up several thousand...and if you can find a 2006 you should get it for at least $5K below sticker.

Hyundai is probably the best, plus it's an Asian made car, and those are always better and last much longer Kia is just a cheaper versian of the Hyundai, and not as good in quality, but still it's a decent car if youre on a budget.

Simply put, no.
I had a 2006 Tucson. It had shifting problems with the transmission, the rpm would keep going up and up after going into third gear..
The rear window leaked water.
The right passenger seat squeaks,
THe engine is VERY noisy. I had the 4-cyl. No power also.
I ended up trading in for a Nissan Xterra. Also the resale value was low.. I got it for $17,900 and got $11,000 out of it as a trade.. only had 7,000 miles on it too.
Go buy a Toyota Rav4, Honda CRV or Nissan Xterra, there are reasons why there are so many of them on the road.
I don't know about the Hyundai cars, but their suv's just dont cut it.

My years of experience as a hyundai mechanic i've noticed that the tucson were the last car you would see a problem with. Everybody drives differently and the transmission learns your driving habits. As do they all. All cars have problems and there are many TSB's (technical service bullitens) which are common problems found in each specific vehicle. If there is a problem with a new car check with your dealer. You never know it could easily fixed at no cost to you. Thats whats important right. Our warranty is better than anybodies. So it's a very good vehicle of choice in my opinion and experience.

Hyundai are sometimes hard to get parts for. I had a co-worker that had to wait over a month of an in-warranty part replacement.

It's a decent small SUV but lacks agility and has bad fuel economy compared to the Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V.
