Adobe actually does not make dreamweaver, Macromedia does. Dreamweaver is part of a media suite used for making websites. Macromedia Flash is used to create flash animations, Fireworks is for graphic design and photomanipulation, Freehand is for creating graphics, and finally Dreamweaver is for puting the website together. It is a program that uses WYSIWYG interfaces to collaberate hypertext markup language with components made in the other Macromedia programs to make a website.

OR it is a very good web development tool. It is WYSIWYG and very reliable, pretty powerful without being too hard to use. A very good choice now that MS has killed front page and started expressions.
