I don't know why anyone would say that against an atheist when it's abundantly clear that atheists don't want a god number one, and number two there are quite a few theists who obviously believe in the "Just believe in Jesus and you too can be "blessed" with lots of material possessions and money" crowd.

Don't know. the usual propaganda. Christian seem to think that if we don't worship god we must worship something else, and whatever it is, it's bad. I don't worship money. Money doesn't buy love peace and friendship. In fact if I worship anything, it's the love of my family and friends. I worship a beuatiful spring day, the good I see in other people. If this is bad so be it. at least I worship something that is good in all of us.

Ignorance probably has a lot to with people saying that about atheists...along with a readiness by these same people to defame anybody who doesn't share the same beliefs as themselves, any lie will do they aren't too picky.
