Don't run your dishwasher unless it is full and don't use heat when drying.
Wash your clothes in cold or warm water - NOT hot.
Your water heater thermostat should be at 120 degrees - that is hot enough.
Don't overheat or overcool your rooms. Set it to be lower in winter and higher in summer.
Clean your air filters or replace them and clean dirty air conditioners.
Buy florescent lightbulbs to save energy on the ones you already have.
Try simple things like wrapping your water heater in an insulating jacket.
You should install special low-use shower heads so as not to use a lot of hot water.
Plug up air leaks around doors and windows.
Ask your utility company to find where your home may be poorly insulated or energy inefficient.
Whenever you can, ride a bike, walk, or use a carpool.
When buying a car try to get one that has good gas mileage.
Try to recycle or reuse products.
Insulate your walls and ceilings.
When buying new windows, install the best energy saving models.
Plant trees near your home and paint your home a light color in a warm climate, and a dark color in a cool climate.
Select the most energy efficient models for your home.
Try to keep track of environmental issues and your elected official's voting records.
Try to plan to have a smaller family because population is one of the biggest problems of global warming.
Scientists have determined that a number of human activities are contributing to global warming by adding excessive amounts of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide accummulate in the atmosphere and trap heat that normally would exit into outer space.

Serious answer, it might be long...
Global warming is the term used to describe the general warming trend that the world is currently experiecing, there are both natural and manmade reasons why the world is warming.
Global warming happens because certain gases - the greenhouse gases - have the ability to trap heat within the Earth's atmosphere. Heat from the sun can enter our atmosphere but is trapped when it tries to leave (see note 1 for technical explanation).
There are many causes of greenhouse gases, the main ones are the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) in power stations, fuel for transportation, agriculture and industry. The most common greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide but there are many others, all of which are worse than carbon dioxide (see note 2 for technical explanation).
It would be great if we could just shut down the causes of the greenhouse gases but unfortunately it's not so simple. Our lives revolve around such things as power, heat, light, transport, communication etc and all of these generate greenhouse gases. What we can do though is to look at ways of making these technologies more efficient so that they use less fuel and we can look at alternative fuels that don't rely on the burning of fossil fuels. Some alternatives include wind, solar, tidal and nuclear power.
Everybody can play a small part in helping to reduce global warming by reducing their demand for electricity, gasoline etc. If we all make a small difference it will add up to a big difference.
If you go to this website http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/combat it has lots of ideas that you can use to help combat global warming. If you look elsewhere on the same website you'll find a lot more information about global warming.

-------------------------------------
NOTE 1 - Heat from the sun is Solar Radiation which has a very short wavelength and can pass unimpeded through our atmosphere, this is absorbed by the planet and subsequently released as Thermal Radiation which has a longer wavelength. The elemental gases in the atmosphere are composed of atoms and the heat can pass through without problem, the molecular gases (greenhouse gases) are molecules and are much larger making it harder for heat to escape).
NOTE 2 - Some greenhouse gases are more effective than others at trapping heat. Their effectiveness is measures in terms of their Global Warming Potential (GWP). Carbon dioxide has a fixed GWP of 1, the next three most significant greenhouse gases are methane which has a GWP of 23, nitrous oxide which has a GWP of 296 and dichlorodiflouromethane which has a GWP of 8500. For example, one 'drop' of methane causes as much warming as 23 'drops' of carbon dioxide.

The biggest polluters in the world are also the most powerful people in the world, so it's hard to stop them. Industrial companies are huge contributors to global warming with all their pollution, but they're also extremely powerful because they contribute a lot of money to political candidates. Candidates need the money from these companies, so they're hesitant to control or stop the companies from over pollution.
If you want to help, start educating people. Convince people not to drive a few blocks, but walk that few blocks. In LA, people drive literally 1 block to go to the grocery store rather than walk that 1 block. If you drive to work, consider car pooling. Water the lawn early in the morning or at night. Recycle.

global warming is caused by the sun, oceans, and maybe under 1% by humans.. I mean look at the history of the planet. The temperature never remains the same. there is not a time period on record for 100 years of so where the temperature stayed the same. look at the ice ages, heating periods the earth has gone through..
the global warming freaks are just hypocrites. they ask us to live a certain way, but they fly, drive big cars, live in big homes, cut down forests to make bigger homes, waste energy.. but don't talk to them, they only want to control the rest of us.. Do the research.. for every scientist that states global warming is happening, there are just as many who state it is not caused by humans...

all of us knows that global warming is the biggest problem now.the smoke of vehicles,,..etc.form a layer around earth.out of all sun rays comming only10%is taken by earth and remaining get reflected.but as the layer was formed the sun rays which were reflected cant pass them as a result rays were trapped.due to which the temperature become hot.this is called global warming.LIMITED USE OF ALL TECHNOLOGY IS THE BEST REMEDY FOR IT.

Im am only 13 years old going into the 7th grade. All I know bout global warming is that it has something to so with the ozone layer. It is caused by pollution such as, the sumping of oil into the waters, and air polltion, ect.....
well I dont think that there is a way to stop it, but there is a way to help it.
STOP POLLUTING OUR EARTH!!!!!

in case you elect to obtain furnish funds for climate examine, do you think of which you will get a cheque in case you assert," i choose the furnish, as i think of that i will show that the figures that the present paradigm is predicated upon are incorrect" ? the great environmentalist, David Bellamy, has been silenced, and refused airtime. there remains no shown causative link between the quantity of Co2 interior the ambience, and an develop in international temperatures. The WWWF photos of the polar bears swimming have been taken interior the Arctic summer season; while the ice cap in part melts, as they could no longer upward thrust as much as photograph interior the iciness. The ice became too thick! The East-Anglian uni examine figures. "Oh! The figures do no longer tournament our expectancies. Oh nicely. save quiet. by way of fact all of us comprehend that we are precise." while the perception, and the religion is extra significant than squarely dealing with the valid doubts of a substantial sort of non furnish-supported scientists, technological wisdom has been superceded with the help of religious zealots. As Oliver Cromwell colourfully reported." I pray thee, interior the bowels of Christ, evaluate that thou mayest be incorrect."

They can't shut down things causing it, especially the big things (cars and factories) because they'll damage the economy. Try www.stopglobalwarming.com for info on trying to help.
