I have nothing against Jewish people, as many of my friends are Jewish. But, there's one thing that I just don't understand. How can people possibly think Jesus was a Jewish Guy? I mean, obviously he was a Christian. Had he been Jewish, don't you think his name would've been Jesus Jew, and not Jesus Christ? Duh!

Jesus was Jewish because his parents were Jewish, all his ancestors were Jewish, he was raised a Jew, he practiced Judaism, he came "to the lost sheep of the house of Israel," etc.

No, being Jewish wouldn't entail him being named Jesus Jew anymore than every other Jew's last named was "Jew."

Is this a serious question?

He was born a Jew. He was a reformer and preached that Jewish laws were no longer binding but he was still a Jew just as Martin Luther was still a Christian even though he taught against many things in the Christian doctrine.

Actually, it's more a matter of semantics than anything else. You are right when you say he was a Christian because he believed in Himself so he was both Jew and Christian.

Btw, the word Christ is a title, not a last name and it means "anointed one" so he was Jesus, the Anointed.

In his time people did not have last names. His name is not "Jesus Christ", it is only "Jesus". Or as some would say, "Jesus of Nazareth" Sometimes the place you were born was connected to your name so people could differentiate from two or more people with the same name.

"Christ" is a title, like "king of kings"or "the annointed one'.

It was my understanding that yes, he was born and raised Jewish. He preached about a new way of life meant to be more tolerant of differences between people and about the importance of being a good person. Over hundreds of years, that evolved into a religious belief system known as Christianity.

From what I studied, the first people to be officially known as "christians" did not appear for approximately 300 years after Jesus died.

For more information maybe consider enrolling in a bible study group, and of course there is lots of information by googling.

Hope that helps. :)

Jesus was a Nazarene Jew. Born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth. He was born into a Jewish family of Mary and Joseph, both of Jewish descent from the line of David. It would be the Jews that would later reject Jesus as their prophesied Messiah.

However, it was Jesus that the Christian religion was founded upon. This doesn't mean Jesus himself was a Christian, He was only the central figure in which Christianity was founded upon. Technically speaking it was Paul that instituted much of the disciplines of Christian living... making him the founder of Christianity.

LUVHURTS - FYI, being Jewish is not a race. Jewish is a religious belief system. Hebrew is the race of people you are referring to.

for one, the bible says jesus was a jew.
for two, jesus name is not jesus christ, jesus was the christ, the christ is suppose to be the messiah, also known as the savior. christ jesus is a more literate term.
and for three, how could there be christians before christ? how could jesus be a christian if he was the christ? christians could not have originated until after the christ, thus christianity.
think about it! or actually maybe you have, and maybe you know that you have asked a stupid question, but only asked it to see what kind of stupid results you get....it seems there are many questions like this.

..
He was born into the Jewish faith, from the lineage of David the King. The last supper? It was Passover. He celebrated his barmitzvah. He read from the tora.

Have you even READ your bible?

Christians were/are those that followed him and his teachings. Christian was actually meant to be a derogatory term, coined by the Romans. It means "little Christs" and the early Christians adopted the term to be something to live UP to, since we are trying to be like Him, as best as we possibly can.

Ah, well, ah, He was not a Christian! He was a Jew, born in the house and linage of David. His Father and Mother were Jewish. Christianity means Followers of Christ. His Hebrew Name is, Yeshua Ben Joseph. Or did you really know that?

roflmao..... No, he was Jewish. He could not be Christian because HE was Christ. A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus Christ.

If Jesus existed, he believed in the god of Abraham which is the same god as the Jewish and the Muslims believe in.

Use your logic.
