My guess is never. I can't wait until Leopard comes out in the fall and blows Vista out of the water. On the other hand, I think Vista is already doing that itself. I guess that's what happens when you try and ripoff OS X, and do a poor job at it to boot.

When they release SP1. I've seen leopard (not the beta) it has some great possibilities. computer development is a leapfrog process building on each other including the competition. Mac is not without its faults and all gui's, including mac build on PARC. And OSX is just a ripof of unix, but they DID IT RIGHT. I think microsoft is trying to be all things to too many people. They leave holes so mediocre or bad software can be compatible that causes good software inoperable or leaves holes that can be exploited.

Vista will truly take off when a number of things happen:

1) Direct X10 Cards are widely available at low prices
2) When they de-bug it and release SP1 which contains most of the plug n play device drivers.
3) When people begin to buy it, the price will drop, meaning that more people will buy it, and more machines will come pre-installed with Vista, due to the demand of the product increasing, therefore the price dropping.
4) When MS stop producing updates for XP, just like they did with 98 and ME

To be honest, a world of Linux and mac powered computers is a pipe dream, no operating system available at this current time has the flexibility AND the ease of use that windows does.

I am hoping never! I just heard of a new laptop that someone bought with 1 GB of RAM and dual core processor. Tons of video memory on it and the thing ran to a crawl when running a streaming video feed off the internet. I heard from the person who witnessed this that the 1 GB of RAM was down to 16 MB free and the mouse was hard as hell to move. Almost like running Windows 98 and a 500 MHz processor to do video editing.

Shame on Microsoft! I am using a VLK crack version of Windows XP and was thinking on actually becoming a legit Microsoft customer with Vista. Nope no more Microsoft. I plan on going to Linux on my older machine and leaving the crack version of XP running as long as I can.

Then maybe I will buy an Apple Laptop. Not sure yet.

It won't take off until it's debugged with a re-released or service pack to fix it.

This is a money mongering version of windows, so with it's problems, I don't think it will ever take off.
