I own a cat only kennel boarding facility and the honest answer is that you never know. I've had a 4 year old die of cancer, a 6 year old of kidney failure and another of a heart attack. My mom's one got lymphoma at 10, her other lived to be 17. The oldest one I've boarded was 22 but there have been quite a few 19-21 lately.
I'd say that the average is 17-19 though you need to have bloodwork done starting at the age of 10 to help catch any unforseen symptoms. Unfortunately cancer & heart problems don't always show up. The top 3 killers of cats are kidney failure, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism but they can live years if caught in time. Most of my older cats have 1 of those 3 conditions and they do well on meds. until it's their time in which you usually know when that'll be.

It depends on the genetics of the cat, just like with people, the medical care it receives, and whether or not you let it outside.
An indoor cat, with annual medical care, can easily live 12 years. The life expectancy of an outdoor cat is 5 or less.
I had two. One I had to put down at 20 (he had pancreatic cancer). The other died from sudden heart failure at 8. Both were indoor cats. I think I read somewhere the longest lived domestic cat on record was 35 years.

Depends on how you take care of your cat. I had a white calico for 15 years [ cat years ]. She had her shots every year and check out by vet when she looked sick. I spent more money on vet bills then I did for my kids. But she was loved by all of us.She was strictly a house cat...
