Tie rods linkage pitman arms center length drag arms frontend needs to be overhauled.460 that a big heavy motor you should not have more than an inch of play in steering could be dangerous.

there is a connection in the steering rod that the steering wheel is connected to. if you look under the hood you will see the rod and look for a fabric type disc. Its hard to explain here. sometimes that disc and fords are notorious for this problem will wear out and cause alot of steering wheel play. If that is not your problem then it may be in the actual front end. If this model truck does not have one it could be wore out steering box too.

It can be done...This truck has independent front suspension so the cost of the conversion will be higher since you will need a transfer box, front diff, new hubs ETC... I think your best bet will be just raise it and go for the PreRunner look and have fun that way. If you still want a 4 wheel drive your probably better off getting a truck that is a 4X4. GOOD LUCK

This is a common problem with Ford Trucks. be prepared to spend a bundle of money on new steering parts to fix it, then within a couple years it will happen again.

Take the truck to an alignment shop and have the front end looked at. It could be something simple or it could be something that may be worn to the point of being dangerous. Be safe and have it repaired. good luck.

Bushings need replacing? Trac bar ends worn? The U-joints in the steering column could also be heavily worn.

loose suspension parts can be your problem. a worn or improperly adjusted steering gear also. more than likely a loose draglink or tierods. replace and realign vehicle.

you need to adjust your steeing gear box and new steering wheel shaft
