It should run from the thumb drive, are you opening it from the drive itself or from a shortcut that went to the old deleted one?.. other than that, it should work without any problems.

Some programs need to alter the registry and also put certain program files in other places (other than the folder where you installed the program). If you uninstalled the program, then the registry entries and other program files were deleted too.
Plug in your flash drive and run the program's installation program. Tell the installation program that you want to install the program on your flash drive. If you have multiple SanDisk Cruzers, make sure that the volume label on each device is different, so Windows can tell the difference between them. Always plug in that particular Cruzer first, so Windows assigns it the same 1st available drive letter.
If you want to use the program on other computers, you'll have to run the installation program on those computers too. Make sure that the drive letter assigned to the Cruzer on the other computers is the same as yours.

Yes and no. If you want to run a program from a flash drive, you need to use a portable version of the program. For example, there is a desktop version of Firefox, a popular web browser, and a portable version. Another example, Avast offers both a desktop and portable version of their popular antivirus program. In short, you need to find a portable version of the program you are interested in. Try the website site Portable App (http://portableapps.com/). The program you are interested in might not have a portable version; however, there might be a portable alternative program. For example, instead of Windows Media Player, which has no portable version, you can use the free VLC media player, which is absolutely free and plays more file types than WMP. If you want some suggestions for a particular software, i can direct you to a place where you might be able to find a portable version.

BTW, you can run a search for "u3" on Google. U3 is the name of the technology which allows programs to run from a flash drive. If the program says it is "U3" compatible then it is a portable application.

Yes, you can store programs on your flash drive but you cannot run them from there.
