Can twins have Down's syndrome? The reason I ask this is because there is a programme on TV (Eastenders) that has a baby who has it. Usually for babies they get twins to act so that the babies get a break. It got me thinking that I have never seen twins with the condition. And if they can be twins... do both get it or does one have it and the other is "normal"?

Yes, it's possible for both twins to have it.

Eastenders is 'fantasy land'. If you read the script, you will see this story line was almost dropped because of the problem of a substitute baby. However as Down's Syndrome is genetic, up to a certain age it is not possible to really tell babies apart, except for hair color, eye color. Therefore they ran with this story, which is excellent and is supposed to raise 'awareness'. My only wish other 'Soaps' would be equal in their script writing of other forms of disabilities, so as to raise Public Awareness. Mind you the baby is real 'cute'!

Twins can have Down syndrome. Both can have it, or just one. I know a set of triplets where one has it but not the other two.

yes its possible for twins to have it, espically if they're identical twins.
if they're not identical (as in from 2 seperate sperm) then they have the same chance of having trisomy 21 depending on there parents gene(s) for it.
