Direct object pronouns - lo, la, los, las

These are used with verbs. They should answer the question "whom or what" is the verb doing. For example, you have the sentence "Yo como la manzana." I eat the apple. To rephrase with the direct object, you look at the verb. Yo como. I eat. Whom or What do you eat? The apple. Therefore, you would form the sentence "Yo la como" or "I eat it."

Indirect object pronouns - me, te, le, les

This should answer to whom or to what is the verb doing. For example, "Tu envias un mensaje a Rodolfo." Send a message to Rodolfo. To whom or what are you sending the message? Rodolfo. Therefore, "Tu le envias un mensaje" or Send him a message.

Just think of "me" as the receiver. Me lo da = He gives it to "me". Se lo di = I gave it to him
