I did. It's helpful. Some people forget - but most are just rude and won't be coming anyway. It'll help you sort out the two types of people.

It is absolutely acceptable to give them a call. Just politely call them up and tell them you'd love to have them at the wedding (otherwise you wouldn't have invited them). Find out how many people you should expect and let them know you look forward to seeing them there.
People understand how much weddings cost and the time it takes to plan every detail. Obviously you also need to tell your caterer a fairly exact head count, so giving a call to the non-responders is perfectly ok.
Good luck!

Sure you can . I have lost a few important items in the mail that have either been sent to the wrong address or got mixed up and thrown out with the junk mail... Who the hell knows but I know I have not received some mail that has been sent to me. I would be so mad if I missed your wedding because of something stupid like that and no one called me.

Yes it is ok because weddings are very expensive. You can just call and say " hey, I just wanted to make sure I have you down for the wedding, do you know for sure whether you are able to make it?", also factor in a few extra people just in case someone extra shows up.

You have to call them, you need to know if they're coming so you can give an accurate count to the caterer. It never ceases to amaze me how rude some people are. You give them a self adressed stamped envelope and they still can't get it in the mail.

Only if you really desire their presence but that's the last thing you should worry about. people should know by now if you don't respond you don't eat. be strict with that rule at your reception. Make sure you appoint a tough person to stand at the door to let people know if the don't have a place setting they have to wait until everyone else is seated.

Typically I would say no. You should always plan on a few extras showing up. However if you are planning a formal dinner with specific seating arrangements then I would go ahead and call.

Absolutely. That way, you don't get any *surprise* guests at the wedding.
Just call and say, "Hello so-and-so, I noticed we hadn't received your response card yet. We would be honored if you can attend--will you be able to?" Something non-accusatory, even if you're irked at them not replying on their own! :-)
