I can understand not liking the military, government, or most anything else, but show some frigging respect for the men and women that give all they possibly can for us to enjoy our rights.

Sporty, this question was directed to Americans, which you obviously are not.

Americans who are against the war still need to support the troops. The soldiers did not ask to go into battle, they are doing what they are told to do by their commander and chief - the President of the United States. I am against the war but still support the troops. By the way, donate your airline miles to help the troops and their families - and this weekend the airlines will match any donated miles. http://www.heromiles.org/

I have heard of ears being taken, and gold from teeth taken but never a skull. I'm sure the Japanese soldiers were dead at the time. Soldiers have always taken trophies, flags, guns and other things. My own father took a Nazi belt buckle and rumor has it my brother-in-law cut off a Kamikaze pilots ear when he crashed on the US Enterprise. Look at the mutilation native Americans did at the Little Big Horn, the SS had many more documented souvenirs from Jews. Mans inhumanity to man.

I see just the opposite. I see tremendous support for the military, but complete and utter alienation with the government that is sending them into harms way for triumphalist, and spurious reasons. I live in a town with a military base and there is nothing but support, both officially and unofficially, for our men and women in uniform. If you are referring to the disrespect shown to our walkabout weekend warrior, he deserves all of the contempt he earned. The rest of the Military is feeling the love, and if you aren't maybe you should distance yourself from the Right wing conservative war-mongers masquerading as Christian Compassionate Conservatives!

People who do not support our Gov., Military, or civilian contractors. Are the ones who scream the loudest when met with large volleys of weapons fire but until then, they don't want to even acknowledge these entities. So basically they are the American Chicken. Please remember America it's not a religion thing IT'S a FREEDOM Thing.

Please Support Our Troops and Civilian Contractors

These People are doing a job with all the Dignity, Morality, Honor and Self Sacrifice they can Muster

Because it is easier to hate those who have to actually carry out the orders rather than focusing on those who sent us to war in the first place. Blame the politicians who decided to send us over there in the first place and do something about that (like voting people out of office or protesting against the war) rather than berating the Military. If people want us out of the war, then they should focus their anger where it really belongs.

My husband nor I have experienced this first hand, but I know some friends who have. My husband is currently in Iraq now and our hometown is showing him their support. My friends husband is also in Iraq and she has been spit and called many things. They also call her husband a baby killer and a rapist, which he has done neither. It only takes one rotten apple to destroy the whole group. Some Americans will never be able to understand what my husband and other soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines do to defend their freedom. Have a Happy Memorial Day!

i realize that you will not consider this an 'answer' to your question, because i do not appear to agree with you but...

i have not seen a single shred of evidence anywhere in our culture or nation at large to support the basic premise of this question.

like in the civil war, where the north lost battle after battle, the nation properly understood that our troops are doing the best they can in a literally impossible situation.

and like in the american civil war, the army (like the army of the north) is led by people who have no business making military decisions.

when bush states that the decisions are made the commanders on the ground, he casually omits the fact that he has removed any commander who was strong enough to disagree with him - leaving what is now left - people who politically support the cause.

americans do not hate their soldiers - the very statement defies logic, but we have very sincere issues with those who have so casually made the decision to send them to their deaths...

No one likes the yard dog. Even when he's the only thing keeping burglars and criminals off the property, he's still ugly and mean. So we don't give him great food, decent housing, or even real paychecks. Then, when he dies, we just get another.

And on his part, despite that neglect and even abuse he remains loyal and vigilant. God bless the yard dog!

Well, murderers and torturers aren t that well liked anywhere. The US Army consists of volunteers, which means that the soldiers agreed to commit those atrocities to a degree. Sure, the orders come from above, but the people who join the army, know what they are getting into.
