Connect it using compound (yellow) cable - it can not send progressive signal. Menu should be working.

Why is it that so many of you do not have your original remote stored away somewhere safe? I hope you have your owners manual as my suggestion is to look through your owners manual for a simple way to switch from progressive scan to interlaced.

On my Toshiba DVD recorder I have to press and hold the SETUP button on the remote for more than three seconds in order to change it from progressive scan to interlace scanning.

Also, for those of you who don't know ... when progressive scan is selected, composite video is blanked out so you can't use the yellow connector.

This happened to me a while ago, and I had to hold down the stop button for 10 seconds, let it up for 2 and then do it again. (for 10 seconds) This resets the DVD player.

GRANTED I had the original DVD player remote, and not a universal, so this may not work for you.

Idk what model and make you have but I pressed and held the play button and it turned the progressive scan off immediately. Hope this helps you!

If all else fails, unplug the power source, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.
