im living in an apartment which devours most of my money, in a country which hardly understands my language, and im basically living on a shoestring in every sense.

basically, im looking for suggestions for tolerable meals which are cheap, very cheap.
as cheap as possible :p

basically im living off semmeln, tuna salad, rice with fried veg and the odd omelet or something similar. this is all made bearable with salt and tabasco, but i still wouldnt mind some variety in my banal gastronomy..

suggestions would be most appreciated! thankyou in advance

Pita bread pizza
put pasta sauce over pita bread (buy pkg of 10)
add grated cheese, some veggies(onion, g/pepper, maybe slice of ham from sandwich meat chopped up and put ontop)
bake 425F oven for 8-10min till cheese melts.
===================================
put potatoe in microwave for about 6min (poke holes with fork before putting in micro)
chop onion..slice baked potatoe...put a lil oil in pan and fry up potatoe slices and onion
..just before done..grate some cheese ontop..let melt..then Eat*
------------------------------------------------------------------
buy one pkg of ground beef , fry up and drain meat..add chpped onion, maybe a bit of green pepper chopped up, some seasonings.add can or jar of pasta sauce...then boil some pasta macaraoni noodles in seperate pot, drain when done, add to meat /sauce mixture.....kinda like a hamburger helper meal but you can have a few meals from that as it makes alot and is filling for you and tasty.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
grilled cheese sandwiches
egg salad sandwiches or fried egg sandwich
or take a potatoe/slice it into wedges, put in bowl drizzle lil oil over, season with garlic powder or chilli powder , toss to coat. put in 425F oven for 10min turn over for another 5-8 min...(filling and cheap-spicey fries more or less and throw an egg beside it and slice of bread*

I would suggest to look for a cheaper appt. or try to find a better paying job in the country you're in..if u keep eating the tiny bit that you've been eating..you won't be around long enough as you'll end up getting sick not having enough nutrients for your body. (try to get your protien,fruits/veg/dairy and grains) Best wishes*

I definately know where you are coming from....Been there myself. All I can say is that When I had my apartment and was going to school, I lived a lot on soup, sandwiches, salads, and homemade Spinach and Artichoke dip. I also ate a lot of spaghetti. I always bought 70/30 beef. I know it is fatty and doesn't taste as good as the 90/10 but hey it is CHEAP!!!! And you just have to drain it really good, and maybe pat the oil off of it with a paper towel after you have drained it if it is really bad. Another thing I lived on were those Lipton Brand Side Dishes (they have rice and pasta with all kinds of different flavors). Really it is all just being observant and thrifty at the store. Try to keep it as generic as possible, and dont buy top of line meats and stuff unless you have a date coming over that you really want to impress. Chicken and rice is another really cheap, delicious meal. I hope this has helped you, because it sure did help me when I was in your situation.

One word: Chicken! It's cheap when you buy them whole. There are a MILLION recipes online for every part of one. YOu can roast it for one meal and eat the rest over the next couple of meals. I lived on chicken, rice, the cheapest in-season vegetables and Ramen noodles while in college and I still make some of those dishes. Use the internet for easy recipes to make ANYTHING better. Its not rocket surgery. If I could become a decent cook, ANYONE CAN. Cheers, mate! Remember, we're all only a mouse-click away no matter where you are in the world.

pastas are usually very cheap. and anything with potatoes. the meats where the problem is. which country are you talkin about? whats easily accessible ingregient-wise? big earthy salads are good with tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. throw some chicken on top. umnmn hamburger helper-style are good, but homemade. take macaroni noodles and pour a big can of chili, mix, and add cheddar cheese and bake. orrr spaghettis always cheap. whole bunch for under 7 bucks. i use that a LOT in my apt.
