Lymphocyte count increase with infection, this only means that your body is trying to fight the infection. It tells the doctors that you have an infection and it is up to them to spot where the infection is. In cases of people who are immunocompromised (Ex: HIV or AIDS patients), in the presence of infection, their lymphocytes may remain the same or even decrease signalling that they are not able to fight the infection. Abundance of lymphocytes causes swelling of lymph nodes which we usually see in a person with infection.

I have wait for it Persistent Lymphocytosis! That is what started the long trips to Hematologist to find a reason. It now seems I have some form of 'smoldering' leukemia and had it checked last year, thankfully still smoldering. You can locate cancer in the blood in a simple blood tests, if something is abnormal, like a simple blood cell.
