There really is no fast diet that is also good, just like with humans. The weight needs to come off slowly in order to stay off. Also, it is not healthy for your dog to lose weight so quickly. Your vet should be able to tell you good ways to go about putting your dog on a diet that will last. All diets also involve exercise, so be prepared. Your vet will give you a goal weight and you should stop in at least once amonth to record how your dog is doing. You will be very happy you went to the trouble, because obesity in dogs can cause some serious medical conditions. Good luck!

What would be "fastest" isn't usually what is the healthiest.

Make sure she is on a good quality dog food (I choose Flint River), and many quality brands do offer weight control formulas. Cut her normal food ration by 1/3, and cut out the people food and snacks, unless they are healthy too.....my dogs will actually munch on the occasional carrot or fresh green bean. Boost her exercise level a bit, but do it gradually.

It's pretty much just like a human trying to lose weight in a healthy way....use common sense and quality foods.

Well, first of all, the dog didn't put the weight on overnight, so the best won't be the fastest. Cut down on food, don't feed any snacks, especially not human food, and exercise the dog more. Using common sense, of course, if the dog's not used to exercise, you need to start slowly and build him up to walking longer distances.

My doxie grew overweight after we had him neutered. I began feeding him Purina One Healthy Weight food. He likes the food alot. It is lower in calories and fat than other dog foods. He has dropped alot of weight and now he looks and feels great. Also you should walk him regularly. Please start him on a weight control food soon, otherwise he will develop back problems as my dachshund did. This breed of dog is also prone to diabetes.

One food that's great for weight loss is a veterinary diet, Purina OM (Overweight Management) http://www.bizrate.com/dogsupplies/oid384319468.html. You'll have to see your vet about obtaining it, because I'm not sure that you can get it except through a veterinarian.
