I would like to know at what age some of you started feeding your children real food. My son is 7 months, and he wants everything his little eyes see. He wants to try macaroni and cheese, chicken and everything else. What age should I let him experment with this type of food?

Hello.I don't have a daughter but my sister does and I've taken care of her.
Well, her daughter is 8 months old and yes,one month ago we fed her everything. I'm sure as a responsible parent you're aware that hard, sweet food can never go into a baby's mouth.

Macaroni and cheese is not the best thing to feed a baby
because of the cheese.Cheese is too heavy for a baby's
stomach.

At 7 months,I do not recommend any meat whatsoever.Maybe at around 11 months or so.

Some things you could try feeding your baby are:

Beans, sweet potatoes, carrots (soft),rice, baby cereal (available in any store in the baby care section),fruits such as banana.

My son at 6 months, wanted nothing to do with baby food. He wanted what ever we had. But he also had 6 teeth by then. Just cut every thing small, and let him try it.
Mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, sweet potatoes and other soft food like that are great to start with.

right now. just not the way you eat it. the mac and cheese is fine as it is, but the chicken should be plain roasted (or boiled) skinless chicken shredded or chopped into small enough pieces for him to handle. fresh veggies like carrots or peas are great at this age too, just boil until really soft and mash with a fork. I started my kids on real food at about 6 months. also yogurt is great at this age. just stay away from "chokeables" like nuts or popcorn or anything hard and small (since they don't really have teeth they need to be able to "gum" it and swallow it!)

i think now is a good age. I started my kids around 6-7 months... of course i mashed the food up leaving some texture. however i would consider not letting them taste things w/ a lot of salt or flavor quite yet... if you do, then they won't want to eat any of the other stuff like their baby food or more bland tasting things-- you know, like vegetables.

does he have teeth? you can't start whole food until they can chew it really. you can give them super-mashed up or food-processed servings though. my mom said she never bought us baby foods, she just mashed up whatever she cooked for dinner (not necessarily the meats at first). make sure to puree it though, there might be a choking risk at 7 months. my son was not a fan of chunky textures when he was so young.

you can smash the food into semi solid and feed it as long as it is small enough to let him chew and swallow it easily
