After you have changed the oil, turn the key to on, but do not start, and put the gas pedal to the floor 3 times. That should reset the light. If not, try running through the options on your system information scanner to see if there is a "reset" option there, if there is, once you get it on screen press and hold the button for 10 seconds.
Do not disconnect the battery. (Unless of course you want to enhance my tow business, because doing so will sometimes reset the security system and it won't start.)

with key in the on position quickly depress the gas pedal 5 times then start the engine. should reset the change oil light. worked well for gmc Yukon, should work for your grand am.
