No you are not alone. I have this exact same problem. My dad used to collect tape measures (strange hobby). And i would play with them (another strange hobby). But then one day, the side of the tape cut my are and broke an artery. Not cool. so i had to go to the hospital. I also have a strange phobia of blood so that didn't help the bleeding. So now my stomach gets all weird whenever i am near a tape measure. I have gotten better though. I went out and bought a tape measure and put it up in my room. It helped me be able to deal with the discomfort much better.

I'm scared to death of fish so I think most phobias are strange to other people. I still know another person who has the same phobia and wont eat anything that comes from the sea.I don't think you're alone with this,I'm sure there's someone else somewhere.

i don't know if you are in the uk - But here (england) we have just aired a series on tv called panic room. About people with extreme phobias. One woman had a really bad phobia of buttons. And they helped her deal with that. So if you can download any of the series i think it might be benificial to you

That is strange! There's probabaly some really interesting childhood story behind that one! I think the only thing that can help is to have that therap, i forget what its called but you are basically just forced to look at thing you are scared of, and eventually when nothing terrible happens your brain just stops associating it with fear. There are courses where you can do this in a controlled environment, or you could just do it on yourself! I am scared of vomit- i'm terrified of being sick!

Never heard of this one - Maybe you actually have a fear of lizard tongues - tape measures look like lizard tongues as you pull the tape out.
