You should have absolutely no qualms about leaving anywhere you don't want to be.
I was at a 'friends and family' picnic given by a group I belonged to. I arrived early to help set up tables, sort and organize plates, forks, etc, put out tables, chairs, food, etc. It was a hot day and I had a lot of running around to do before the picnic.
Anyway, different people of the group sponsoring the picnic arrived way late and therefore had no hand in all the work. By the by, I had enough of the drunks and the smell of bbq so I wanted to leave. Some people seemed to take offense that I didn't want to stay till the last hot dog was consumed. (Call me cynical but I think these same late comers wanted me to clear up also.)
I look at it this way: I came early, did my thing, and now it was time to split. So in other words, F--k what the Johny come latelys say, when it's time to git, JUST GIT and you don't owe any explanations to ANYONE !!!

I get up and leave if I am in a group where no one there is anyone I know or can get to know, no one I have anything in common with, no one seems to care if I stick around or not. And I don't want to be there anyway.
If it is work, it isn't an option, unless you want to quit.
At my goddaughter's birthday party 5 years ago, I left early. I didn't stomp out in a fit of pique, I just made my excuses and left. It was in too small a house for too many people, everyone was smoking and the A/C wasn't keeping up. Kids were running around all over screaming, and I was getting a headache. I was going to leave early anyway to go to my husband's birthday party soon after. So I left earlier than I was going to. Good thing, as it was the last time I saw my mother-in-law alive.

I have got up and walked from a film Dr.Zhivago because i was not enjoying it and later found that many others had.
I walked out of my local Parish church when a service got to "happy clappy" I felt it reduced the faith to little more than a an ego trip for the leader of the service with a bit of a sing song with prayer thrown in as an afterthought
I might add that I can usually cope with "happy clappy" but there is a limit

if i realize that I have a valid reason for not wanting to be there. If I'm just bored, I can stick it out, but if someone or something is upsetting me, then I remove myself from the situation.

I had someone make a very offensive comment about me (or rather what they would like me to do to them...) in a crowded restaurant. I rarely lose my temper, but on this occasion I got up, threw a glass of water in his face and left without saying a word.

i would rather get up and leave thens how my emotions in front of work collegues (esp at the mo) if one of them starts and has a go i'd rather walk away than show any weakness.
i'm also not a fighter, i'd rather walk away from an argument than end up angry, hurt or end up hurting someone. (guess i'm a big softee really)

the only track approximately this unique undertaking could be "hotel California" with the help of The Eagles. nonetheless a great album--I even have an old vinyl replica that I have been given for my 14th birthday in (choke) 1977.

When someone is badmouthing and critisizing people I know and care about in public and it is not an appropriate time to address it. or
When people are foul mouthed and crude unnecessarily

usually when I'm bored, I'm offended, if I feel I'm not being respected by the people I'm talking to, if I am not educated enough on the topic at hand, if I'm sober and everyone is drunk and there is no alcohol left, etc.
