Lawyers are the Luddites of a prosperous society.

It's the environmental (flat-earth) lawyers that are preventing us from making more significant progress on elimination of carbon based fuel sources.

They prevent the development of non-carbon based power generation (nuclear, wind, hydro-electric, etc.). Every time that a new large capacity energy production site is proposed, some lawyer brings it to a halt because of 'environmental' concerns.

Of course, as the environmental issues increase, and the governments start enacting and enforcing environmental laws, businesses will have to start hiring environmentally focused developers and lawers just to keep in the game, once laws start getting serious, they won't be able to afford not to!
