She probably just has an ego and "expects" expensive gifts. Most people I know, shy or not, would manage to cough up a "thank you".

Well maybe she'd not the type who likes pearl or maybe she was just very happy and lost for words.
On the other hand she must have been embarrassed that she didn't get you anything.

How old is she? Maybe she was just taken aback by the value of the gift and didn't know how to react. Wait a while for her reaction. If she doesn't mention anything about it, you should ask her how or if she liked it. If you don't ask, you'll never know ...

Did she blush when you gave it to her? That would indicate she was shy but happy about it and may have forgotten to say thanks.
If she just took it and walked off, then she doesn't like you, but is enough of a ***** to still take your gift.

she's rude. I don't know your age, and I'm not old, but I was brought up with strict manners. Parents now (my age) are lacking that in their children. So, its 2 possible answers, she's rude (and you really wouldn't want to date her because so) or she isn't interested.
