The purpose of control in a power plant is to ensure that electricity is conveyed with the following charactaristics:

1) Proper power parameters including voltage, phasing, power factor, freqency.
2) Proper resource management (ie hydroelectric/solar/etc where availability can change)
3) Ensure output matches demand
4) Longevity of plant equipment
5) Safety of power plant

The list can go on and on...thought I'd just get you started

Control in power plant help to regulate operation of the plant at certain load with safety. Control include various subsystems of the total plant and now a days all these are monitored from remote control room.

Control ensures quality be it in production, resource management or whatever. Any thing out of control is unpredictable. Have controls if you want quality power with optimised utilisation of resources while keeping safety first.

Mostly the control is to maintain the correct voltage and frequency.
