I was about to sign off, but can't resist your good question.
47.5% of Americans are fake as christans, putting the other 52.5% christians in a very difficult position.
I'm not worried about their policeman role, but their irrational, arrogant and uncompromising policeman role.

According to the Harris poll:
79% of Americans believe there is a God, and that 66% are absolutely certain this is true. Only 9% do not believe in God, while a further 12% are not sure.
Polls are odd things you just find the right group of people and you have high or low percentages

You should be thankful that Us Americans do believe in creation instead of evolution, Because we know that, that person has a soul & not just something here with no knowledge & understanding. If all we did was believe in evolution, then you can take the evolution theory 2 ways, One is after this life is over, you are history forever, Or you can take evolution into another direction & connect it with re-incarnation, because if some is continueing evolution then he would evolve into another life form. But most Americans believe that a man or women has a soul, Yes we have our problems with many religions as any country, we have our share of crime, that is why we have policeman, But this nation has always been a nation to hold restraint until something like Pearl Harbor or 911 happens, we our not an trouble making nation, but once we or our allies is attacked, we will respond, Why do we restraint, because we know that every person has a soul, Now you say you are afraid that we have Nukes, You should be thankful we do have nukes, because if we did not, You will be living under a a islamic control live forever, you won't have no freedom whatsoever.

Most american christians live in their bible belt and have never ventured further than their own neighbourhood.
As such they have a very blinkered knowledge of the world and other beliefs. This is dangerous but I get the impression their leaders simply manipulate them and have a wider knowledge of the world. The danger will come when a religious fanatic starts to build a power base.

I'm British and it worries me too.
But I have to say, since coming here I have a bit more hope.
I've seen on here that there are plenty of American secularists who would make their business to stop the fundamentalists getter too much power. There are even a few reasonable christians. I wish them all luck.

Funny, that's not what I gather. I grew up being taught that the Earth was quite old, and that we evolved. Most of the people I know back in the States believe that.
I believe that the Earth might be old, but I also believe that God created it. There is a good amount of evidence that suggests a Creator, and it's not only American scientists who believe that.
On the other hand, there is NO evidence that proves that humans and apes have a common ancestor.

It concerns me that Bush thinks he`s acting in the name of God. He`s made the US look like a farce with his constant religious analogy.

I don't know about the 10,000 years ago thing. The bible says seven days, but what is a day to God? 100 years? 100 billion years?

Living in the bible belt, I can assure you, it's true (though I think 50% is a tad too high).
