it really isn't something i deal with. and i live in the south where nice girls don't have big tattoos. maybe i get stares and am just oblivious but as long as you love your tattoos just smile and be awesome so you can break the stereotype of being a girl with tattoos. be extra polite and maybe people will think twice about you.

I live in the USA...California. It's not that big of a deal here. But I'm also a Christian and some folks think it's not right to mark your body. My tattoo is on my hip, and seen only by my husband. I've told others I have one, and most people are okay with it. But there are a few people who definitely raise their eyebrows at me or say something under their breath that I can tell isn't very kind. And then there are those who will come right out and say nasty things about tattoos. Those are the ones I *don't* tell that I have one! lol I'm pretty choosy about who I tell.
But anyway, I personally like tattoos, whether they're seen or not. I do know what you mean, though, about it being annoying (how people react to them). People should mind their own business, if they have nothing good to say. But I say, let people stare and talk. Maybe they're thinking, "Hey..she * (meaning you) is really cool! Maybe *I* should do that, too!" ; )

I know what you mean only my frustration comes from others criticizing my having a Kanji but no heritage relations. I don't see the big deal to having something in another language if you are being serious and not just mocking the featured language. It does get annoying. The usual comment in the negative about mine is "those characters are just fads" or "how do you know it means what you wanted? you can't read it to tell". It just bugs me that some feel they need to try and talk me out of others when it's my body. If you don't have anything nice to say try not to say anything at all. To each their own, right? So why can't the tattoo haters understand that? I guess the inked community is just more open minded.

i totally agree that it gets annoying. I have my entire leg covered and people stare lots, I tend to wear pants alot, which i don't mind cause i get the tattoo's for myself not for others. I just try to put people out of my head when i am out in shorts, and ignore them. Although people that i am with think it is funny how people stare at me all the time, if only they had it happen to them. Some day i hope that society will come around, but i think we are still years away from that. good luck to you.

In the United States tattoos are more acceptable. I have found that some people will be offended, but the majority of the people either don't care or like them. The worst thing I've found is people asking "Why did you get that?" or "What does that mean?". I get a little pissed off when people ask me that, like it's my obligation to explain myself to them or when I date someone and mention wanting to get my next tattoo and they say "You don't need any more."

ok you said that you live in the Philippines and every one there is old fashion and religious, they totally stare at you.that is your body this is the new times, you can't change their ways because its their tradition, just don't pay them no mind, and carry on with your life the way you want to,but still be respectful toward them, even though they stare at you, just smile back and act like it don't bother you and after awhile, maybe they'll quit staring at you.remember to just smile,it'll make them think you're up to something which you're not.

I agree-in the US they're more accepted, but there are religious people that have a problem with mine. Mostly I notice people say "You don't seem like the tattoo type!" I still want to know what that means!

I live in Italy, and I have your same "problem". 3 of my 5 tattoos are hid. The only 2 that people can see are little, but they don't care. They also wan't understand the reason of my tattoos, and indicate me (and everyone with tattoos) as "different".
Luckly not all people think so..

A couple of weeks ago, I went 'hardcore' (as my tattoo artist called it), and I got a tattoo of a tiny black butterfly on my temple. It's hardley noticeable when I wear my hair down (I have black hair), but when I wear my hair up, people stare and ask if it's real. Sometimes I just want to say, "Didn't your mother tell you its impolite to stare?"
