Hi Hammer,
i think you will always have some people that will just not like someone else due to skin colour, or other reasons
However i think racism is often based around misinforming people. The British National Party will say immigrants are taking over, and taking jobs from White British People, however in a country with 2 % unemployment that can't be the case + there would be no NHS without migrant workers.
i remember a few years ago, when you had the rioting in Oldham and surrounding areas. The BNP were saying, look more money is being spent on the asian popullation, that's not fare. However the truth is the the asian pollolation were living in the areas that were most run down and therefore needed investment in those areas (housing, schools, parks)
these issues on top of not being able to understand different cultures (the unknown will shape the way that people think)
I am white British. i would like to add that despite what i said, i do believe that the immagration issue nees to be carefully reviewed. i also believe it's unfair that commonwelth citizins are treated less fairly that our EU neighbours

Through ignorance.... however many well rounded well traveled people are labeled racist by the ignorant as well.
I remember an old supply teacher who was a World War II RAF Pilot pick up our lesson once on aparthied, throw the book down and basically fill in the blanks for us as he had spent a lot of time there. At 16 years old we all new everything and accused him of racism, however when South Africas Policey changed everything he said happened. Sorry Mr Sizer.
After spending time in West and East Africa I have opinions on the people from these regions based on what i have seen, which to bleeding heart Liberals who never leave the Comfort zone of there own towns are wrongly interperated as me hating blacks.....
I believe regardless of race......treat people with the contempt they deserve. A bad person is a bad person regardless of wether they are green or purple.

Pedagogy (from ancient Greek 'to lead the child'). The indoctrination of children into the belief systems of their parents and/or cultures accounts for the majority of racist, religious and many other social conflicts. I believe that if you counted 100,000 people, 90% of those whe hold strong religious or racial views will have inherited them from their parents or culture. The same number of people who have been allowed to make independent decisions on their beliefs will, in the same fraction (90%) of cases, have no racist (or other secular) tendencies.

It's deep seated thing. Other species are intolerant of anything they see as different & therefore unknown & potentially threatening. It boils down to competition for limited resources.
What raises Man above the rest (hopefully!) is the ability to reason & question his instincts. I think that is the start of education. Unfortunately there are those who won't BE educated. The way forward with such people is the pressure of society.
You can't force people how to think but you can control the consequences of it!

Ignorant is not an excuse for being racist, I would say they are born to be evil and abusive.
I am a Malaysian chinese (my father from Chine, I was born here) and keep stripping off our rights, especially in education by the malay government. I did not choose to live here, I was born here. Life is so miserable.

They don't have to be but many people are as it's innate. It's got to do with cleaving to your own kind, protecting your group or clan and feeling comfortable with those that look and behave the same as you. People judge others initially by their appearance and behaviour, so naturally without bothering to get to know people that look different and do things differently, to find out they are just the same as themselves, people revert to primitive responses. What is required is talking which again is difficult as "the strangers" sometimes speak a different language.

simply, because they are allowed to be racist.
people can choose what they think and do.
i believe it is mostly down to culture clashes, and been so many wars due to religion etc, that it has just stuck with so many.
i personally think some people dont like change, i dont believe them to be ignorant of this, but i think people in time will learn to have more of an open mind, and this will be easier done through the generations.

because of freedom of mind.
i have been raped by a gang of a particular religion and come from a particular country, but i would be classed as racist because i do not think to highly of them.
so please dont anyone go on about ignorance etc of religions or races, because for some people they may have experienced something like i did, or they dont agree with part of a religion or culture etc, people are free to think what they like, i know not everyone likes white people or Scottish/British people, but i respect that, why cant everyone respect that not everyone will be liked from every race/religion etc?.
