there is a woman whom i know who leaves her 6 year old daughter with their family dog (A massive timber wolf) and she goes to the shops.

The dog is well used to the child, but as a dog lover i would never leave a kid alone with any dog.

would you?

Personally I think she should be reported. A dog is a great pet, but it is still an animal. And she is still a child and needs adult supervision.

A timber wolf in Australia? Or are you in Pakistan this week? Or Saudi Arabia? Just where are you pretending to be from this time. OOOOOOOOOOH Scotland? They killed off all the wolves a few centuries ago.

Push come to shove any child would be safer with a wolf than someone of your dismal ethical values.

But, no that is not a smart thing to do with an animal and a baby. The child is too young and such an animal would follow the child as head of the pack.

However...

HEY CLONE, LAY OFF THE FUNNY JUICE OR WHATEVER YOU ARE SMOKING.

You just like to try to stir people up.

I wonder when you will GROW up.

Salaam

Leaving a young child with a dog instead of a responsible person is child abuse and reckless endangerment of a child. That is the same as abandoning the child or leaving the child alone. This person needs to be reported the very next time you know she has left the child with the dog. Call the police, child welfare, social services whoever handles this is your area. Any dog has the ability to inflict grievous injury on a person if provoked, even a loving family pet can become Cujo if provoked .

A six year old child left with a dog is a child left alone.
I would not leave a child of that age alone, with or without a dog.

A 6 yr old shouldn't be left without an adult...period. A dog cannot help put out a fire. A dog can't do the heimlich. This woman should be reported for the sake of safety of the child.

no.

i would never leave a child alone with a dog of any kind. the sweetest, friendliest dogs can snap at any time.

I've seen it happen, and the ways in which a carnivorous animal of prey can disfigure or even kill young children is not only shocking, but it is not a chance I would ever take with my child.

absolutely never.

but don't take my word for it, go have a conversation with your local ems or street cop, I'm sure they could drive the message home for you with some true stories.

NEVER!!!!!!! That is child abandonment. She is not living in a Peter Pan fairy tale, with a St. Bernard as a nanny. Six years old is at LEAST six years too young to be left alone. I would say perhaps 12, give or take a bit, would be the minimum age to leave a child alone in the house.

Nope. I'd never leave my kid alone. Period. I have a 6 year old and she is too young to be left alone with just an animal! Not to mention that the animal could maul her even if he/she has never done so in the past. This woman could get busted for child endangerment - if she's here in the US. Do they have that law abroad too?

I would never leave a six-year-old at home alone anyway! Dog or no dog. They could get into anything and there would be no one there to help out or call someone. It is very dangerous, and I don't think the authorities would approve.

if the dog is well trained then i don't think the dog would do anything to the child, if it's even more well trained then it might protect the child...maybe. i just don't think i would leave a six year old child alone for over a twelve minute peroid of time.
and the training of the child matters too

It's not the fact the child is left with the dog that's important here it's the fact the child is left with no adult.
Child services need to be told of this as every time she does this she puts that child in danger.
