What is true is that Chapter one of Genesis is the story of EL, the Mesopotamian God creating everything, and chapter two is a rewrite with YHVH as the creator.

The book was never intended for publication, it was a series of notes and cheat sheets for the Priests.

Genesis contains several stories that are duplicated, first the original with the Mesopotamian God, then followed by the rewrite with the Hebrew God.

So if you believe Genesis chapter one, you believe in the God of Saddam Hussein's ancient ancestors.

Many Christians say the "truth" in Genesis is deeper and it was never intended to be a science book.

The Bible is a treasure chest of truth and wisdom. But if you get caught up in the details -- for example, God created light on the first day, separated the light from the darkness, and called the light "day" and the darkness "night." But he didn't create the sun & moon until the fourth day.

Don't get tangled up in the details -- you'll miss the whole point.

True. All of God's word is true. Genesis can be taken completely literally. Other parts are more symbolic, but He says what he means.

Either way is profitable. Perhaps you could ask what the allegorical message was. People discard the message, when the poetry doesn't fit their science. Contrary to Shakespeare, God, and royalty don't always speak in iambic pentameter.

100 % true.

To the person who said the god of Moses is Satan, who do you think you are? more to the point, what are you thinking???

Moses was a prophet, and a good man, this is what Jesus thought of him. The god of Moses is the god of everyone, the god of Moses is our Heavenly Father, maybe you should read your scriptures before you make judgements like that on an Old Testament person.

If christians were really followers of Jesus then they would not be taking Moses account of creation over jesus. Be smart, read the accurate and true account of creation in The Apocryphon of John. The god of Moses is satan.

Will a former Christian do?

Please remember that there are millions, if not billions, of Christians in this world. Why should they all believe the same thing on this particular question?
