There are basic principles that are required, and the terrorist always ignore those. Suicidal bombing is totally forbidden in Islam, and those terrorists need to reread the scriptures. Their use of the word Jihad is totally warped and wrong.

Depends on what you mean by reform.
If by reform you mean improve: then I have to say that the teachings of Islam cannot be reformed because it is already complete and fully coherent and practical. However, there is a certain branch of Islamic science that is called FIQH. Fiqh refers to the making of rulings about daily life, based on the basics in the Quran.
For example, what is the ruling of riding an airplane? this may seem like a dumb question but fiqh scholars have to look up at the teachings in the Quran and give rulings about modern day needs. Some of these fiqh rulings need to be updated. Muslims know what Im talking about.

Why should Islam be reformed, if you're an X Muslim that is your choice, why should everyone have to conform to your or to western standards. No I am not a Muslim but I do believe in freedom of choice and not forcing my beliefs on other people. If people would just accept the fact that we are all different and have different beliefs then this planet would be a much happier to be.

The religion Islam is a gift from God and therefore cannot be changed according to the whims of man. Instead Muslims need to be reformed.

Rux is right, Islam does not need reformity. Now you say your an exmuslim, I say you were probably did not know much about Islam. You need to read the Quran and find out more information on Islam. Islam is a very peaceful religion.

Islam does not need to be reformed. Islam has left nothing unexplained whatever the creation needed for the life of this world or in the hereafter...
It is a perfected religion.

The Islamic faith will change in the same way that other faiths have evolved over time. When the religion no longer meets the requirements of the adherents, those in power will be required to change aspects of the religion our lose its followers.
Reform happens from within. Off shoots of christianity and catholicism have taken place from within leading to the creation of new religions with variations from their origin. Roman catholic and Greed orthodox being an example that took place.
If people have the right to religious freedom then I would suggest leaving well enough alone. I don't have a right to impose my will on those who choose to be Muslim.

Unfortunately Islam cannot be reformed. It is stuck in the mind set of what passed for reality hundreds of years ago. There is no way that you can drag a people who believe that women are there to breed, serve their husbands and have no rights.into the 21st century, or to cut the heads off innocent men because it is the right thing to do.

Islam itself cannot be and will never be 'reformed'.
Muslims, however, can. I'm living proof of that.
When I started pure Islam, I followed every hadiyth and every imaam devoutly. But I discovered that I had developed the one thing that I thought Islam had delivered me from... BLIND FAITH.
So when I started to discover that some of the hadiyths(even the accepted, sound, good, etc.) were false and made up by the political 'godfathers' of the religion simply to control the Muslim majority, I became disgusted with 'mainstream' Islam.
I started studying the objective history of Islam and understood that only the Qur'an and Sunnah need to be practiced. Islam itself is flexible because only Allah(God) can understand our intentions.
Only the Five Pillars are unmovable, untouchable, and unchangeable. I don't follow the teachings of Abu Bakr(R.A.A.), Umar(R.A.A.), 'Ali(R.A.A.) because, simply, they were NOT the Prophet(S.A.W.).
The Islamic Empire has perverted the teachings of the Beloved Prophet(S.A.W.) by closing the doors of Ijtihad(Islamic Free Thinking) because they were afraid of innovation(introducing new things/manipulating the teachings of Islam), thus closing the minds of the great Muslims.
I, however, don't want to be enslaved by man's laws. I submit to Allah(God) Alone, and follow the teachings of His Prophet(S.A.W.).
I call every one of my Muslim brothers and sisters to search into our faith and discover that just because previous Muslims were silenced into docility and blindness that it doesn't mean WE have to. For example, look at the Pact of Umar and ask yourselves 'Is this what the Prophet(S.A.W.) would have wanted?'. Do not be controlled by the hypocritical and ignorant political 'Muslims' who wish to control you.
The Islamic Empire doesn't exist anymore. We're all that's left.
Seek knowledge for knowledge is power; power is freedom; freedom is peace...
May Peace be upon you...

It doesn't need to be reformed. It's needs to be understood - and that can only be done by people who want to learn more. As for people like you who don't want to learn, you will never understand it. You'd prefer to listen to CNN and all the other bull out there in this country.
