Oh its arrogance, all right.
I'm not sure I believe in God or not, but I *KNOW* that if he exists, I don't
know what his standards are and/or where I would fall on them.
Mother Teresa has no reason to believe she's a shoe-in.
Why would I presume that I would be so endowed?

Hi Cathy Rose, I see what you mean here; but in Protestantism there is the school of thought that believes once you turn to Christ and repent you are saved once and for all no matter what you do in life.
Of course I am not poking fun at them simply because this is what they have been taught since childhood and Protestantism rests on this premise, I don`t like to knock the beliefs of others but this sounds too convenient to me,it seems almost arrogant in a sense, or at the least taking it all for granted in a matter of fact way.
We know that we must pick up our cross and follow Christ and this includes suffering and sacrifice, it also insists on works of charity and mercy and even then the fact remains that we still cannot merit Heaven automatically but rely on the mercy of God right to the end.

The Spiritual walk of a persons life can be the most rewarding, or most self destroying as drugs.
We all have the right to choose how we understand, why we must understand, and maybe more important, what we must understand.
Each person has a different idea of the levels, or commitments, or sacrifices.
To judge another based on our own belief or understanding not only violates our own beliefs of " Don't judge ", but places us in a position of superiority of hypocrisy.
For one to believe that they will go to heaven because they understand that when Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, it meant that everyone who believed in him would surely follow, is just as reasonable as the ones who think that if they do not practice complete perfection, they may go to a fiery hell.
No one person has the complete understanding, or power to decide what another should or should not believe.
That would be an EGO that I could not live with.

I am hoping and praying that I will make it there myself someday. I as a sinner don't really deserve to go there, but God is a merciful and forgiving God, and that's what I am counting on.
I don't presume that I've as good as made it there already, and I don't believe most true Christians believe that either.
I talk to God every day. It's known as prayer and praying. We should all do it. What's just as important as talking to God though is sometimes being still and actually *listening* to God. That is the harder of the two to do ;-)

You are correct, Cathy:
Although I would substitute arrogant with the word presumptuous.
Sensing your worthlessness lets you know that God's Spirit is still working with you on your Christian walk.
How many in history held to a form of godliness but denied Him by their works. Literally millions were killed, even tortures, in the name of God. And according to Bible prophecy, this will happen again, see link below.
Although we have a promise of heaven to the faithful, we have not "attained" yet. Heavenly intelligences made the decision if we will be safe residences where perfect angels and a God, who cannot behold sin, dwells.
All the disciples ran when Jesus was captured. Only two were watching His trial, one crowed in cadence with a rooster. And none said they would never make that mistake again. Paul says: Not that I have attained.
It was not until he faced decapitation before the ignoble Nero that he said: I have fought the fight and run the race and a crown is awaiting me; and we to, must remain faithful to the end or be found lacking in the judgment.
We can "guage" ourselves by evaluating our selves with God's standard. Do you exhibit His qualities in your life? Display love for humanity? Kindness and prudence with His creation? Do you love to talk to and about Him? You will know for certain we have made it when you finally hear the words: "Well done, my faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.
Blessings, One-Way

Its very important for you to be absoloutely confident that you're going to heaven. God says if we believe in Jesus then we will have eternal life. To not be sure if we will get to heaven either means we don't really believe in Jesus or we are doubting Gods word. Definately not arrogant. I used to feel the same as you but then I realised what Grace is. It Means I'm given something I don't deserve. I don't deserve to go to heaven but because of Jesus I am.

I agree with you. People should hope or wish to go to Heaven and try to prove that they are worthy of getting that honor. But saying that I will definately go to heaven, how can anyone say? People do wrong things without even knowing that its wrong, how would someone know that?
All will know when the time comes, but no one can be certain.

I agree i used to attend church but do not anymore because of the types of things you mention above, i do think its very arrogant of them to say that they talk to god and he even with all the things he has on his plate has the time to have a cosy little chat with them, what makes them so special that he talks like that with them, i believe if god wanted to talk with people he could, but i dont believe he would entertain the arrogant who would brag about such happenings, causing others to feel inadequate.

Paradoxically the people that think they are automatically going to a materially comfortable heaven are the very ones who lack the genuine spiritual insight to even know what heaven is. They will reap what they sow and it might even be "heavenly" but it will only be an illusion. Enlightenment is the true reality.
