Are labels any good? Can you just slap on a word and turn something into what it is not?

The answer to your question is "Yes", since you used "Anything" as you your modifier.

I want my State Attorney General, my County Sheriff, the Secretary/Treasurer of My Church and the Home Plate Umpire to take their jobs to the extreme.

Do I want them to be fanatical about it? No, not so much.

Go explore the world, find some better pronouns and study your history. If you are worried about being trapped by some enraged monks and beaten into submission, read Karen Armstrong's "The History of God". That will fuel you with a general knowledge of all religions.

well....honestly when I hear the word "extremist" I never think of anything good. Now the word "activist" is a totally different story. I don't see any problems whatsoever with activists like animal rights groups and whatever picketing and holding rallies and stuff. But then you have what you call "extremists" who believe in the same thing but blow it wwwwaaaaaaayyyyy out of proportion and sometimes even result to violence and people doing crazy things....no need for fire damage or riot police just because you want to make a stand or let your voice be heard. There are so many more ways to get your message across then that garbage, I mean , do you really think the government or anyone for that matter is going to give you your way if your setting things on fire and flipping cars over?

I'm beginning to doubt it. Perhaps extremists in Constitutional Law might be considered good. Imagine someone so dedicated that he or she becomes a lawyer and takes the toughest cases of the Institute for Justice, for example.

Generally extremists are one-sided people who can be extremely dangerous. Their narrow focus prevents them from seeing the effect of their decisions on what they consider peripheral.

Yes of course. If you consider "extremist" to mean, "actions or measures beyond the norm, and not generally supported by the majority", then mankind has benefited hugely from extremists. Abolitionists were hated as extremists, Suffragettes fought for female emancipation using extreme measures, medicine, physics, sports, education, space exploration, all have used extreme measures, and fanatical ideals to bring benefits to all. I hope you were not just hinting at Osama bin Laden , to the exclusion of world history !
