I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

I have rated everyone who mentioned AVG - it is what I use now. A couple of years ago I updated my Macafee (£40 a shot anti virus) and found that it clogged up my system because of too many downloads! Couldn't get my emails and when my local computer hospital took a look they told me that it was the anti-virus software. Took off Macaffee and downloaded AVG - works well and I have never had a problem with it - but you need to update it on a very regular basis. For the same reason as not using Macaffee, I wouldn't bother with Norton, either!

I think AVG Antivirus free edition is a good choice,

You can download it from here:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

Also see AVG Antispyware free here:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5

I have purchased the full version, free version is also good & dependable, but still there are some additional featutes which you can get only with full version, You have asked for free therefore I am suggesting AVG Free because it is the best in comparism to other freely available softwares.

Have a nice day......

Well,

I would not look beyond AVG Free and Avast if I were you.

But if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick AVG anyday.

cheers.
