In India many people marry strangers for benefits whom they never dated by a system of legalized prostitution. Normal guys like me go through so much pain finding dates and struggling to maintain relationships. The morons (such as those in workplace) who got married by cheap means get into nobody's business and ask us why we are not married yet etc. I feel like spitting on their face and yelling "I may be getting old but I will only marry when I find my love, and not marry because I'm so desperate to get laid". How do I deal with these morons? Is it not rude for them to ask such questions (goddamn it, they ask in job interviews *when* I'm getting married as if anyone knows)

With questions where you want to stop further prying, keep your answer short.

Can I recommend something like "I was brought up to think of marriage differently to what is accepted here." and leave it at that.
This way they have no opening for a new question unless they were going to be rude anyway. If they do continue just keep to your original answer and continue with "It's different & just as I wouldn't understand your upbringing unless I lived it, you wouldn't understand mine".

I feel your pain bud, I just got engaged after 10 years with my man (in Australia) & I felt I wanted to wait for him to ask me because of my upbringing. (Not me to ask him). I hated that question for so long too.

Good luck

There's obviously some culture clash happening here. Obviously you're a little bitter about your still being single, and you're lashing out at these people because they do things differently. It is completely normal in their culture to have arranged marriages, so they're not really understanding your situation. I think you should consider leaving India if this has become such an issue for you.

A lot of them seem to ask these questions here in YA. I don't know what to tell you. The Indian culture really seems pretty bizarre to a westerner. I guess you should stick to your guns. There's someone out there that thinks just like you.
