Though I do not believe that gods exist, and have not since before I took razor to chin (I'm now 71), I rarely call myself an atheist, or think of myself as such. But I'm thinking that here, at this tower of talk talk talk, I'll accept it as what I am. My question on this morning in spring (I am in the South...the southeastern part of the States...it is spring here) I'm mildly annoyed by the anger and sneering of persons who claim they are Christian. If that is so, if these people are Christian, some of them sure as shoot aren't acting Christian here. Such language, such disrespect, such hate, hate, hate. Disagree with nonbelievers, sure, but isn't there a better way to speak the speech without dropping to so low a level? (Yes, yes, I know that atheists here also engage in such vile babble, but, hey, remember that you are a "Christian" who loves and forgives, or so you say).

I believe in Christ and I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes there is so much vitriolic bile spouted on this site that I sometimes feel like leaving altogether. This is a site for everyone to express their views/beliefs with spewing 'talk' that these so called christians believe in

uh..."Christians" are called the "flock" for one reason, and one reason only: because they're sheep. They follow whoever tells them what to do and these people are the clergy. There are good clergy there are bad clergy, but they're all one thing, human. However, the believers forget that, and most of them have never really read the bible, probably skimmed the pages a bit during sermon and listened to some stories and that's pretty much it. I've at least read the King James bible 100 times, my excuse was i was in catholic school for one year, and i can tell you i know very few about it.

Hate comes from ignorance, what is there really to hate about evolution? That it does what? Says humans come from monkeys? Well it doesn't, humans do NOT come from monkeys, humans come from apes, and by come i mean the last common ancestor with chimpanzees was about 6 million years ago. Of course the next logical/illogical argument would be if humans came from monkeys why are there still monkeys, it's like they've been watching pokemon too long, "if you evolve, that's it that's the end of the line". Of course that is wrong, the common ancestors ARE extinct, the primates we see now evolved from said ancestors and that's why they're there. Then there are those who attack evolution by saying it's flawed. And in fact it IS flawed, evolution documents the CHANGE in species, that means it's a working theory. It's put into practice and there are missing links out there.

Most fanatic christians are like that republican guy Westmoorland, he proposed to put th 10 commandments in courthouses and Colbert ripped him a new one. Ripped him for proposing? No, ripped him for being ignorant. WHen colbert asked him is there any place that is better to put the commandments, westmoorland said no. Colbert promptly asked again, and Westmoorland said no. The correct answer would be the church, but i guess since no one goes what the heck right. Then colbert asked westmoorland to recite the 10 commandments, couldn't do it. And that's the epidemic christians are going through, a faith epidemic. There's a lot of faith, but it's blind. The followers don't know what's going on and just do what they're being told.

sad isn't it.

Hello, I see your point here and I see two types of Christians on this forum, passive Christians and aggressive Christians.
I never really thought that two types existed until I became a member of this forum,or maybe I was just naive? and I have been stunned at some of the comments I have read.
I see no excuse for retaliation by Believers even to angry and indecent comments as it shows the wrong side of true Christian ethics.
I know from experience of being a Catholic here, what these closed minded fellow believers can cause upset and give out a warped message of what Christ spoke during His mission and feel that they have become hard-hearted and too dogmatic and this is not the Christ that I know and love.
Perhaps it is a case of religious elitism and the fact that they think they have got God in their back pocket.
There are many good and fine Christians who are painted with the same brush because of these others and this too goes for Atheists and it is a darn shame that this should be so.

I am a christian but I totally agree with you on that point Christians should try to live the way Jesus taught them to live.
I try not to say anything hateful on here or any where, but I have to admit there has been only one or two times I did get a little sarcastic and I maybe shouldn't have. But the last time it was because someone put on here for Christians to shut the he-- up. This is an R&S section and christians should not speek in hate, but I still don't understand why people that toltly don't believe in God even come to this section, is it just to argue? There seames to be more aithiest on her than christians and the ones that don't believe keep telling us what were doing wrong and judgeing the way we speek. I just don't get it if you don't believe in Jesus how can people tell us were not liveing like him when they don't know him?

At 71, I will not call you friend, but rather master, for there is no doubt that you have earnt your respect in life...and for that, I offer you the deapest appologies on behalf of my brothers and sisters who claim to be Christians yet do not practice it by "hating" and "degarding" you...I kindly ask you to forgive them.

I am member of one the Oldest Christian denominations (Coptic Orthodox) and I can tell you in full faith, honesty and genuine meaning...That is NOT what Christianity teaches. Hatred, disrespect and downgrading has NEVER been a part of the Christian Teaching...Certianly Christ Himeslef NEVER taught so...In fact, his approach has always been total oposite, and that is why I have a spiff myself with those borthers and sisters who do not learn from Him and treat a geuinely good person like yourself with suh contempt.

You have hit the nail on the head when you say "...remember that you are a "Christian" who loves and forgives, or so you say..."
When we look at the path that Christ has taken on many occassions, His approach has never been in anyway in line with those poor souls that claim to be Christians yet practice hate. The most classic example is His speach with the Samaritan woman...remembering she was a "samaritan, a non-jew, a SINNER above all things"...yet He has spoken to her very softly, gently, respectful and with utmost care and affection, until she believed in Him and His teachings and became a great evangelist in the History of the Church. This is what we as Christians should be doing...and the church fathers say that even if she had not believed and chose to walk away, Christ would have still loved her as a creation of His.

This is what true Christianity and evengelism is...not what is practiced by those over-zealouse brothers of mine...and that is why I kindly ask you to forgive them and try not to cast a judgement on Christianity as a result of such unfortunate incidents.

God bless.

Oh my gosh, thank you for pointing this out. I completely understand what you are saying and you aren't alone. I'm not an atheist, but I'm not a strong believer in God and so many times I've felt like Christians have put me down and "hated" on me and made me feel like I should be guilty for what I can't help believing in. It confuses me as to why they can speak so much about love and forgiveness, yet they treat people that don't share the same feelings as if they are less. It really is a contridiction on beliefs.

Hi G-GM, I'm yeesang.
I used to spend a few minutes each day to pray in a mosque, a hindu temple, a taoist & buddhist temple and a church everyday on my way to school 40 years ago.
Everyone welcomed me with open arms. Today, this sort of things don't happen anymore to anyone. Power statements like, '...if you're not with us, then you must be against us'... gets resonated all over the world, and dig the word hate deeper & deeper.
I don't believe there is god anymore.
I wholeheartedly agree to what you say about many of the christians you are referring to today. May god, if he exists, bless them.

Nice one, people should have humor in him to digest it. Others should not read it. This word was used may be for the knife was misplaced by forks or doctor might have grab some thing which he might not been using at that particular moment of operation.

After years of dealing with Christians I was pretty much of the belief that regardless of what the words may say, that the very foundation of the religion was hate. Therefore if they get harsh it doesn't bother me,I simply read their inane blabber and move on. They on the other hand can not deal with any opinion other than their own, which is why they cruise the forum reporting those that don't agree with them,as they spout hatred in their every post.

First let me say that I am very concerned for your eternal life due to your disbelief in God. I noticed you said, "gods" you are right "gods" are non-existent, because there is only One God. God is real and whether or not you believe in Him does not take away from that fact. Please don't let your decision to God's existence be hindered by people. There are people in the world today who claim to be Christians but sadly their actions will tell a different story. The Bible (the Word of God) says, "You'll know the tree by the fruit it bears..." Do me a favor, give God a chance in your life. You're 71 years old, you have less time ahead of you. In other words, you need to consider where you want to spend eternal life, in heaven or in hell. And I can assure you, you don't want to go to hell. Find a good godly minister or Pastor and let him pray with you and tell you about all the wonderful things God has in store for you and all you have to do is believe and trust in Him.
