most of .the articles I've read say that puppy will need to go wee after drinking (eating, nap etc ). aren't I making it difficult for puppy to NOT wee in the crate if she has water there?
should I only let her drink when she is supervised out of the crate?

puppy is 10 weeks old

ps thank you to everyone who answers this question or answered my previous questions

pup should only be in the crate at night ( no water) and for very short periods in the day... PLEASE do not make the mistake of over crating the dog...

the pup should be let out of the crate first thing in morning and brought immedieately outside for peeps and poops.
then back inside for breakfast ( with water available)
then right back outside for peeps and poops again..
allow the pup the be inside while you are watching it... IT WILL show you when it will need to relieve itself,, you must watch the body language carefully... if you cannot watch it , it can go back in the crate for a nap,, etc..

bear in mind for the first few weeks,, this will take up much of your time,,,, it is training,, the more time you spend during these first few weeks will be rewarded later in life... again,,, YOU need to housebreak the dog- and only use the crate as a training aid

Is the puppy going to be in the crate all day, or night without being let out to wee? No animal should go without water. And puppies have small bladders. Wow, thats a tough question. I don't believe in crating a pet, am anxious to hear the answer to this. Sorry I was no help. Good luck.

It'a best to water them outside the crate because they will make a mess by playing with the water and will end up sleeping in the wet. At tens weeks, don't expect them to hold more then three hours and the crate should not be any bigger then the area to sleep. If it is bigger, a corner will become the bathroom and crate training has just been ruined.

No. Don't put water in the crate with the puppy.
Remember, "what goes in must come out". Get the puppy on a schedule and stick with it.

At this age the puppy's bladder is not mature and it is hard for them to hold it. So make sure that when she eats, drink then she is taken outside to eliminate. If she does then she can have "free" time in the house. If she doesn't eliminate when you take her out then return her to the crate, wait about 5 minutes and then take her out again, this will show her that she must go outside to eliminate before she gets rewarded.

Good luck

NEVER deprive an animal of access to water! I'm not an expert on crate training, having never personally done it, but I do know that you must not withold water from an animal. If he pees, tough, that's natural. He can still be trainable.

Hey,
You should definitely attend a dog training course if you want to stop these unwanted behaviours. A good one I found online is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=572

It's really well made (it has a lot of videos), simple and effective. I recommend it.

A dog should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have fresh water available to drink. The crate should be large enough to allow the dog to use it in one area, and sleep in another. The bigger the crate, the better... Line the entire floor of crate with 10 layers of newsprint, change it as needed. The dog will get used to peeing on newsprint, and after several weeks of doing that it will seek newsprint to pee on when its out of the crate. That is how you train a puppy to be housebroken. Later when it is older, you can bring the dog out on a leash to use it, it will have a more fully developed bladder then...stick to a schedule 4-6 times per day take it out on a leash, at the same times every day, 1st thing in the morning, last thing at night, and several times in between. eventually the dog will know the schedule and wait to go out to pee.

Pups have difficulty holding, their bladders aren't fully developed yet. Don't put water in the crate with them, that's messed up, they can't control it.

you should never withold water from a dog they should be able to drink when they need it if witheld the bladder will be irrated and they will wee anyway and it will be strong so cause irritation ...use a saucer so there is no chance of the dog falling into it..as it will tip if nudged ....

Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and hers, enhance the bond between you, and ensure her safety and it can be a lot of fun. Dogs are usually eager to learn, and the key to success is good communication. Your dog needs to understand how you’d like her to behave and why it’s in her best interest to comply with your wishes.
