All three of my dogs are on Frontline for fleas...Those are my only pets...It hasnt been a month yet since Ive put the treatment on them (I was told to put it on every month) and 2 of them are already scratching and have fleas. Is there something else I should be doing? Should I start applying the Frontline more than once a month?

Frontline Plus is safe enough to apply every 25 days. You might also want to consider and indoor and/or outdoor flea treatment. Indoors - there are some good aerosol sprays on the market to treat your home. I recommend Ectokyl but see what your vet has to offer. Outdoors - consult pest control.

Also, make sure you're applying Frontline properly. Make sure you part the coat well enough to see his skin and make sure the Frontline is going directly on the skin. You can even apply it in a couple of different spots rather than dumping it all in one spot on his neck. After applying, take him for a run so that the Frontline can better disperse through his skin.

Keep in mind it can take 3-4 months to eliminate a flea infestation. Just continue to apply the frontline every 3 weeks and look into indoor/outdoor flea treatments.

You shouldn't need to apply the Frontline more than once a month.

What you do need to use is a treatment for your house. Frontline will kill any fleas that bite your dogs, but they can still live and breed in your carpet or sofa. Regular Frontline, like any flea treatment, does not kill flea eggs.

After you've sprayed your house (with a spray from a vets, sounds like you know that petshop treatments aren't to be trusted) move on to Frontline Plus, which treats the environment by killing flea eggs. It is only preventative though you see, so you have to first get rid of the fleas in your environment - and you will probably need to treat twice, hoovering in between, to get rid of the eggs and pupae in the carpet.

Oh, also - make sure you're getting the product on their SKIN, none on their fur. I find the stuff tends to puddle a bit and flood on to the fur, so I put it in a few different places. Part the fur to expose the skin.

Frontline Plus only needs to be used every 6 weeks, it's great.

I also, currently have 3 dogs. Two do quite well on Hartz Plus, 3 applications for about $10. Treatment seems to last about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. Third dog didn't seem to do so well on Hartz, still seemed to have fleas and ticks, so I switched last year to Frontline, and she still had tics occassionally. I switched again to Advantix, just a couple of weeks ago. So far so good. This dog is a very heavy coated sheltie, she has lots of thick under coat. The other two..one a lab with short coat, no undercoat, other a thin coated sheltie. All of them are also on the Sentinal flavor tabs for heartworm and flea prevention.

I recommend switching until you find the one that works.

Good luck

Unlike Advantage (which has different components) Frontline is extremely effective when used correctly on ALL dogs - its highly unlikely to be the frontline.

are you applying it correctly?
1. dont wash them for a couple of days before applying frontline.... the skins natural oils help it spread and absorb into the skin.
2. Also, dont wash them for at least three days after applying it.
3. Also, make sure you are applying the correct amount for their weight - no less, or it wont work.
4. apply directly to the SKIN on the back of their necks (not the fur, or it wont work)

if you ARE applying it correctly, its not the dogs that have fleas... its probably the house or yard (the fleas will still jump on the dogs of course, and the dogs will scratch, but the fleas wont live long on them).

your house/yard probably has an infestation, you need to get it treated quickly and effectively - a house infestation is extremely hard to get rid of.

Too much Frontline can kill a dog. Do you need to treat their bedding and housing? You can use borax (laundry detergent) sprinkled all over the carpets to kill fleas. I put it in my dog's kennels once a month. With the ground and carpets treated and Frontline topspot we never have a flea problem. I actually only use the topspot every 6-8 weeks. If you live in a sandy area, it might just be that you have more fleas. We live where the ground is clay.

Frontline should work for around a month. Are you sure you are applying it correctly? Make sure to apply to the skin on the neck and not just on the hair.
Also, sometimes dogs just scratch and it doesn't always mean they have fleas. Ask your vet to be sure

Unfortunately it sounds like your flea problem is very bad. You need to treat the enviroment also either with products from you vets office or by calling in a professional. You also should bathe the dogs and try using Advantix instead. It's a better product. Good luck!

I wouldn't put it on any more that directed. Make sure you follow the instructions completely. Its very important to get it on their skin. I have to long haired dogs, and it is very difficult to do.
