Because christianity, like most other religions, is a very intolerable religion. Each sect believes they are the one true religion and all others are doomed to hell.

I will preface this by saying I am Atheist..
When I was growing up my father was a Bishop in LDS church.. Within 1 mile of the church building there was a Catholic Cathedral, a Southern Baptist church, a synagogue, and JW Kingdom Hall.. My father approached the congregation leaders of each of those places with the idea of meeting, they discussed services to the community each "church" (I put in quotes because some faiths don't call themselves a church ) provided and how they could better serve all people by working together..
The discussion was between my father (LDS Bishop), the Jewish Rabbi, a JW Elder, a Preist, and a SB Minister, the had the discussion over dinner (a meal was agreed upon before hand so no ones sensibilities were bruised)..
Over the next 7 years that my father was Bishop they met once every 6 months or so with each letting the others know what exactly his church had to offer people in need... I distinctly remember many telephone called between meeting which included calls like "I have a family here in need of ____. Since your church has a program for that can I send them over." I personally answered calls of that sort from the preist and the rabbi...
I think a small meets like theirs between local church leaders all over could lead to far less bickering and far more tolerance, and working together for the common good...
I would like to see a large conference of some sort take place.. But I think baby steps such as what my father and the other men did have to happen first.. If more and more of the baby steps happen in future a large conference might be possible.. Even if they can't agree on beliefs maybe they can agree to disagree civilly. Then teach the followers of each of thier faiths to do the same..

We can certainly work together on various issues but that doesn't mean there isn't a huge gulf between what each group believes. The God of traditional Christianity is not the same as the God of the JWs or the Mormons, the God of the Mormons is not the same as the God of the JWs and mainstream Christianity, and the God of the JWs is not the same as the God of the Mormons or of mainstream Christianity. Let's not confuse collaboration with assimilation.

Hi,
There are many fasle religions in this world including certian sects of Christianity. Remember Jesus said "not all those saying Lord Lord will enter into the kingdom of Heaven. They will say to me didn't we expell demons in your name, and perform great works in your name, and then I will say to them, get away from me you workers of iniquity." This means that some people will think they are doing what is right, and they will argue that point even to Jesus's face, but only Jesus knows what is in the hearts of men, and only he can truly judge their motivation. I studied with JW's for six or more years. I don't agree with all their teachings, and they haven't cornered the market on the truth like they believe. I also feel that the Mormons are blinded by their own beliefs, and that Jesus has "foretold us all things", which means that he gave us enough information so we can all be saved without additional books being written to prove that. This world is filled with tratitions of men that mean absolutley nothing in God's eyes, and he states this in scripture. Jesus said that he came to bring division in this world, and it should be no suprise that there is also division within the Christian religion too. We are sinners after all, and easily mislead. It would be wonderful if these different sects could sit down and talk, but after studying with JW"s, it is very apparent that they have a superiority complex and feel they are above reproach. Too bad because they are just as fallably as any other human to walk God's green Earth. And yes, it will take an act of God himself to straighten out the mess that sin has wrought upon this planet.

Because the goal isnt discovering the truth, its about spreading it.
Scientists have bi-annual world conferences, Doctors have bi-annual world conferences, even vacuum manufacturing, production, and sales companies have bi-annual world conferences. These people want to get together, share what they know, what theyve learned, and discovered so that they can continue to improve what they do.
Religion is not like those things.

You can't argue religion into people. You can tell them what you know or believe and leave the rest up to them. People blame religion for the majority of the problems in the world. When will people realise that Christians thrive off of persecution? For when you are weak that is when you are strongest in faith. A lot of people whine about how Christians control everything and don't like the fact that they have their own opinions too. They think the rest of the world controls things. Whichever side one is on they think the world would be better without the other side.

Mostly it's the Christians since they do control most of the ways in America. If the Christian group doesn't like it, they make their voice heard and usually politicians give in. That's the only real reason gay marriage isn't legal in most of the states.
In my opinion, Christians create so many problems and shouldn't be meddling in everyone else's business. But that's just me.
There are events that different religions hold and they talk. But that's rare. Each religion believes in something different even though the value system is the same (such as don't take another life). People have been at war over religion (look at Al Quaida and the past thousands of years of history with different religions).
But I believe in the idea that you pointed out. In reality, we are always at war with someone else in our minds. It's so many cultural differences.
People don't like gays.
People don't like other cplors of skin.
People don't like this and people don't like that.
The longest standing one is the religion.

There is no excuse for bitter contention between adherents of different faiths. In fact, Christianity is unique in that it has no provision for its adherents to engage in violence. Those ostensible "Christians" who do so ignore the Scriptures and the teachings and example of Jesus Christ himself.
(Matthew 26:52) Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword
(Isaiah 2:4) They will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.
(2 Corinthians 10:3-4) We do not wage warfare according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly
(Luke 6:27-29) I [Jesus] say to you who are listening, Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you. To him that strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also
However, there is no reason for any Christian to pretend that there are no differences between his form of worship and that of another. Neither Christ nor the first-century Christians ever suggested "conferences" or collaboration between themselves and the Pharisees, Sadducees, or Samaritans, despite the fact that their God was ostensibly identical, they shared an extensive spiritual heritage, their worship was related, and they agreed that the Hebrew Scriptures represented God's Word. Yet Christians still sought to peacefully preach and teach to the adherents of these other religions, and they gained many converts. Adherents of these other religions tended to persecute the Christians, and even worked to kill adherents of early Christianity.
Jehovah's Witnesses are quite comparable to those early Christians.

First of all, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses are not Christian. The fundamental belief in Christianity is the belief in the full divinity of Jesus Christ. As the first post on this thread states JW's do not believe in the nature of God as do Christians but instead believe that Jesus Christ is a lesser God created by God the Father. This is an Arian belief which is an ancient heresy of Christianity. They do not even believe in Christ's Resurrection as do Christians but have a belief as the ancient Gnostic heretics that Jesus arose in spirit only and not bodily. Their religion is polytheistic and gives ranks among their God's. Their religion because of polytheism resembles the Pagan cults of Rome and of Greece more than Christianity. Like some Eastern Pagan religions they also believe in reincarnation. They also do not believe that Christ died for all but only for 144,000 who are the only ones allowed to take communion and are the only ones who have the promise of eternal life because the bible states that unless one drinks His blood and eats His body they have no life in them. These are just a few things that separate JW's from Christianity and the Mormons are similar in their departure from Christian beliefs.
I believe that ecumenical talks are fruitful only among Christians and to allow heretical cults would just poison such talks and would be unlikely to result in any good fruit.
In Christ

Because the cults do not accept the teachings of Jesus or follow the bible and therefore they can not really relate to christian churches. They in fact spend most of their time trying to justify the existence of their cult and not relating to the christian churches
