I can relate. Ambien helps sometimes.
Good luck.

hello! friend,
First thing is that your problem can be solved only by you !
Yes others advice can help.
Check your bed and see if it needs some adjustment like
The pillow you use should not be too low or too high, this can give you strain to your neck. --- use a not too soft pillow which supports your neck as well.
When you lie down the spine should be as straight as possible. --- don't use too soft bed, it should not be too hard as well.
When you sleep you should feel that all your stomach muscles are relaxed, for this breathe with a slight expansion of your belly. and when you exhale let your stomach come to its normal relaxed position with out any force or effort. This will move forward all the trapped air inside your intestine. as this can cause stifness ithe area where air is trapped.
Once you get some relief in the lying on your back position then turn to one side first left side, feel the left nostril slowly close and all the breath is flowing from the right nostril. this will generate enough heat in the body to keep it warm, this is necessary as the body temperature tends to drop during sleep.
Then if you wake up in the middle of the night then just turn to the other side right only for some time and return to the left side.
Thoughts you are going through when trying to sleep are very important, think only of the pleasent things that have happened during the day , if bad thoughts just change the topic and think of something else ,BE GENTEL with yourself. DON"T FORCE IT.!!!
The back pain can be solved by the following .
When you get up in the morning or in beteewn first lie on your stomach till you are wide awake then lift your self on the arms and the push the body back . this will remove the extra load you exert on the back while getting up straight.
abdominal breathing can help you relax very fast . regular light excersice for your neck like slow rotation right to left and back and forward can also help you.

I agree with Sarah, Danny. I found that I don't have to be a victim to pain, and I live with chronic pain every day. There's nothing like pain to keep you from sleeping. Fortunately, or unfortunately in the eyes of some, I am on long term narcotic pain medication. The type of drug is irrelevant. Each person is different. For me, it's taken 70 mg. a day of Percocet and Oxycodone with 1000 milligrams of Naproxyn. There are several treatments for pain. Some are more effective then others and, unfortunately, most are based on Emperical date - if it worked for me, it'll work for you. For Sarah, it's Vicodin. For Alihirs, it's Chiropractic. But for nearly all, it's a combination of both. I wish you luck and know that you aren't alone when it comes to pain. I will e-mail you and say "Hello" or e-mail me and say, "Hi," if you wish to talk. Good luck.

You don't say if you're having any treatment for this, so if not, you must get some.
I get bad neck pain and sometimes this travels down my back. I use a brilliant book to help me - it's called "Acupressure - how to cure common ailments the natural way" by Michael Reed Gach. It shows you how to apply acupressure to yourself and believe me, it not only works but it's great to know that pain relief is within your own control and at hand anytime you need it - and of course, without taking pills! It doesn't always kills all the pain but relieves some of it and loosens up your muscles too. There's different chapters for all sorts of pain and discomfort, which can help you in all sorts of ways.
Hope you try it, and good luck!

My Friend, you need to seek care from a Chiropractor. I know I'm biased because I'm not only answeing as a DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) but I'm a DC. A good chiropractor can help you not only with your pain but help correct your ergonomic of your pillow and mattress. You'll be happy you did.

Danny, see a really good chiropractor. Its a process and you have to go for more than several visits until the adjustments hold as you begin to heal.
If its a more serious condition they will tell you.

Maybe this is just stupid, but why dont you try taking Vikenin or something strong like that.
If that doesnt work, you should definately go to a specialist.
