Just to put people straight on this ,
I am not a pill popper,
I have had dogs all my life and know when I need to see a vet,
My dog is 12 yrs old and has an ear infection at the moment for which she is on anti biotics which I think is making her a little unwell and she has a temperature.
Thanks for the good answers though.

By the way Laquiasha is just todays nerd. They are on here every now and again and rarely go above 120 points before they have to start another account.

One of the very few human remedies that you can give a dog is Soluble Aspirin. To alleviate joint pain put half of a soluble aspirin in a container. A little warm water to disolve it and just a little milk to make it palatable for the dog. This remedy was given to me by a very respected Vet about 40 years ago.

If your dog is a bit under the weather, try to see where he/she has been or has done in the last 24 hrs. Has there been a change in the household or the weather? What is the age of your pup? Does he/she have arthritis or another medical condtion? Once the cause can be narrowed, you can treat accordingly. If pup doesn't feel any better by Tues at the latest, it's time to get him/her to the vet.
Yes, they do make aspirin for dogs. They are in chewable tablets, read & follow label directions because too much aspirin can make a dog sick. Good luck!!

Because the dog is under the weather, doesn't mean he needs an aspirin. It would be better for the dog, for you to figure out why it doesn't feel well. Did it eat something that is making it ill? Did you give it people food?Randomly giving a dog aspirin is not right.

uhhh.. i hope you dont give humans an asprin just because they are "a bit under the weather". pill popping for everything and anything is not ok for your health.
Dogs do have pain relief/ anti inflammatory medication - your vet will give you some if they determine that your dog needs it.
a lot of things can make dogs seem a bit under the weather.... most of which have nothing to do with needing pain relief or an anti inflammatory!

How do you know that your dog is under the weather? Why do you think aspirin would help?
when my dog's arthritis was bothering him the vet said that I could give him children's aspirin or buffered aspirin. It didn't seem to do much good though. Now he is taking Rimadyl, an anti-inflammatory.

morning pups :) like the new avatar btw :) i've never thought of giving asprin to my dogs , but i'm sure in small doses it would'nt hurt them . saying this maybe its a question for the vets , and if your dog is getting on abit it might not be a bad idea as lots of old people use it to thin the blood and to help prevent heart attacks , hope she's better soon xxx

There are medications to treat pain and arthritis in dogs-talk to your vet.
But I'm curious-do YOU take a pill every time you're "a bit under the weather"? Wouldn't extra rest and fluids be better for you? Try that for doggy and see if it doesn't do better than chemicals.

There is doggy aspirin - they call it Metacam!
The reason it's not advisable to give animls human meds is quite simply their different anatomy. They metabolise drugs quite differently to us. Even when used with the 'correct' dosage, the use of any human drug in animals is still not ideal. Sure, there are plenty of human drugs still used in veterinary medicine, but they are gradually being phased out as more suitable alternatives are being developed.

There are all kinds of painkillers/anti-inflammatories for dogs. If she likes sticks give her a willow branch to chew on- that's what aspirin is made from.
