I respect Meg M, but I'm confused by her response on gay marriage:

"That consent is most important may be the belief of some, but who are they to impose THEIR belief on ME?"

Wouldn't it be an imposition if they FORCED her to marry another women?

Sure, you are right. That would be the truest imposition. But Meg M means that gays are imposing their beliefs on society to say that they believe that they should be allowed to marry and that we should accept that into society in the very same sense that people assert that christians are imposing their views on the rest of the world by trying to evangelize it. That's what Meg M means. By the way, I think as long as Christians don't try to pass legislation that allows it, we really AREN'T imposing our views on society any more than the big bang people are. We might be annoying you to death, but we aren't trying to rule you.
And no, I don't think a day will ever come where gays and christians will agree with each other. But we can live without hating each other.

You're correct.

That's the whole point of keeping religion out of schools. Teaching something as a fact in a school is imposition. Teaching something to a captive audience is forcing belief, or at least attempting to do so.

Discussing somethign in a froum such as this, is not. It is a discussion. That discussion usually ocurrs between people of similar intelligence is customary, but needn't be so. When people do not understand the difference between discussion and imposed indoctrination, one begins to wonder about the relative discussion skills of the participants.

Still, one believing something is not indicative of enforced acceptance of a set of rules or laws upon the other party.

If MegM wants to fight to change the law so that she can legally kill that pig and have pork chops or legally marry it first whichever suits her without the pigs consent , then she will have to find some like-minded others who also wish to fight for the same rights in law ...I think she'll have trouble getting support.
Does she want to have a civil marriage with her pig or a church wedding...more issues to consider.
Will she legally still be able to kill and eat the pig on a whim after she has married it? How long will a divorce take? many things to consider.
If she and the pig adopt will the pig make a good father? What religion is the pig? How will she get along with the new in-laws? Will her mother-in-law be a real sow?

Yes, absolutely.
I wasn't following the question, but doing your own thing is not imposing your beliefs on anyone. Imposing your beliefs on someone is when you literally force them to practice something that contradicts their beliefs. The same thing holds true for free speech - people can disagree with each other until the cows come home.

Minding one's own business does not preclude expressing one's opinion in order to ensure that the laws of society reflect one's personal beliefs.

When you are in the minority you will occasionally have to suffer the restrictions of the majority.
