i found a few websites but I want to see if they are legitimate bc you have to give them your social security number

If you want to be certain, you are allowed to get a free credit report once every 12 months under federal law. Go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com/ to request all three. They sometimes ask you to sign up for credit monitoring so make sure you check no if you see that option since that actually costs money. They link you to the three bureaus for your report. They are legit and it's the site the Feds will direct you to.
I go there every 12 months to request mine.

http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the legit site offered by the gov't and gives you a free credit report from all three bureaus once a year (get them seperately or at the same time) free with no strings attached. The other sites will want you to sign up for a trial offer that costs money, but gives you your credit score.

my credit card company tells my mine monthly when i go to site to manage my account.
