Keep the area around your house well lit and remove any bushes or shrubs that an intruder can use as cover. If possible place motion detector lights around the house. Keep a TV or radio on in the house while you are gone. Pick up some beware of dog signs and a big chain and dog dish and place them as tho a big dog uses them. You can also get some signs which say that survielliance cameras are on the premises. Definatly let the police know of your concerns and above all do NOT place traps around or in your home. This is illegal and you could go to jail if someone is ever killed or hurt by your trap.

Lock your doors and windows at all times, even when your home. If you leave, keep the TV or some lights on when you go. Outdoor lighting on the entrances is also a good idea. Doggie doors are also easy access to your home.
If you can afford an alarm system, they are very helpfull. Get one that goes directly to the police, instead of through an alarm company first.
One of the best things to do is GET A BIG DOG. Don't get a vicious one, just a big one. Anyone who jumps into a yard with a big dog staring at them deserves to get bit anyway. Dogs are usually cheaper than alarms, as long as your willing to care for them!

For your home, get a dog. You don't want a vicious dog, but you also don't want a dog that will lick an intruder. Unfortunately, most people who are robbed, are robbed by someone they know...or someone who has been in their house for some reason. You've got to be careful who you have in your house. Doesn't that suck!
I've had my house robbed. Had bikes stolen and someone even tried to steal my car.
Now that I've got a good dog with big teeth, I sleep good. :)

Wait until the middle of the night about 3 am, and blast a shotgun into your front door. It will wake the neighbors up who will no doubtedly call the police..........When the police show up meet them in your driveway and tell them the man got away and ran off before stealing anything. Your neighbors will FEAR you, no one will ever break into your house. I know this from experience.....not the shotgun part but I caught two kids breaking into my truck just after they ripped my steering column apart. One got away (they caught him) the other was in the middle of the street unconscious when the police showed up. I don't even have to lock my car anymore......they FEAR me......................

if you're at home; you and a shotgun.
if not at home; motion lights, alarms, locks, a camera outside even if it is fake, a locked gate to drive way, timer for lights inside that come on at dark, big bad dog, sign that state alarm system installed, sign stating beware of dog, most anything common sense.

make the next door neighbor look easier to rob than you. Make the access points to your home difficult to use (window locks, fences) and make it visible if someone tries to use them inappropriately (lights, keep bushes low). Dogs don't count for much.
Catch a show called 'to catch a theif'. I forget which channel.

Leave America. It is one of the most dangerous societies to live in. Especially since the latest immigrants come from the most dangerous and criminal nations on earth. Puerto Rico has the 3 rd highest murder rate, Columbia the 1 st, etc.
