Many reasons. The advance of medical science makes it less plausible, it is better for the patient to come where the better equipement is. Also, the problem we have today is people abuse the medical system. They seem to have forgotten how to take care of just about any kind of ailement and are running to doctors for everything. Due to this doctors don't have time to see every patient. If people would get some common sense when it comes to medical needs it may be something that doctors could start back up. There is a doctor at my hospital that has been known to make house calls, he's an orthopedist.

There is not much you can do in a house call. No access to lab or x-ray. Even the basic tools of a good physical exam are hard to carry around with you. Plus in the office you can always slip off for a moment to look something up. With the current legal issues you would also have to take a nurse of different gender with you. As medicine became more complicated and more legal orientated, house calls went away.

Doctors probably stopped making house calls because too their were probably too many people and not enough doctors. Also the amount of paper work that they have to do and the more education and learning that they have to do It would be too much for them to make personal house calls. Its also cheaper for the patients to come to them.

around the 1960/70's'. Thats while medical doctors desperate to end domicile calls and 'stress' each and every person into surgical operation visits. the potential those medical doctors have at present equals a....dictatorship regime schedule - all medical doctors have a financial interest in inner maximum paintings/possession care properties etc....and that all of them spend 'much less time' of their surgical procedures. those present day-day medical doctors are pushed in basic terms with the help of financial benefit - their doctoring skills/standards taking 2d place. The publics expectancies of what a medical doctors contribution to our society is - falls 'a great way short' of the publics expectancies. medical doctors 'compelled' via a working much less hours coverage and demanded (and have been given) extra pay - below the prospect of medical doctors leaving the NHS and working privately in basic terms - and the governments have agreed with that blackmailing coverage.

No they didn't. Though most doctors do not prefer to do such anymore, there are still who do house calls. It would depend on the location. In some countries it is still an active practice making housecalls.

I think its more practical. If they stay in a clinic in a hospital, they can see more people, say, 5 patients in an hour. Than travel and see 1 patient in 2 hours (bec. you have to include time to travel). Maybe house calls can be done for those who are really, really sick anc cant be moved from their bed. Makes you think that there are more house calls by the priests for the dying to bless them...

Actually there are some doctors who do nothing but, and they can make money off of it, and medicare will actually pay more for a housecall than an office visit. It is just rare because most insurance companies don't pay for it, and the patient has to qualify for medicare to pay for it.

because they're too busy at their own office to get away to make visits, too time consuming.

if you want to see a Dr., you have to go see them
